Trump says leak tipped off Iran to missing airman, demands media outlet reveal source or face jail

President Donald Trump told reporters Monday that a leak to the press about a second U.S. airman stranded inside Iran after a shootdown nearly cost the serviceman his life, and vowed his administration would force the media outlet that published the information to hand over its source or face criminal consequences.

The threat came during an April 6 White House press conference where Trump laid out the details of what officials described as one of the most complex rescue missions in U.S. special operations history.

An F-15E Strike Eagle had been shot down over Iran on Friday. The pilot was recovered within hours. But the weapon systems officer, separated by several miles after ejecting, remained alone in hostile territory until Saturday night, nearly 48 hours behind enemy lines.

Trump said the administration deliberately withheld word that a second airman was still missing. Then someone talked.

Trump said the disclosure prompted Iran to issue what he described as a major notice offering "a very big award for anybody that captures the pilot." That turned the search into something far more dangerous. Not only were U.S. rescue teams operating against a hostile military, Trump said, but "millions of people trying to get an award."

Joe Kent, a key deputy to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, posted a resignation letter on X on Tuesday declaring he could no longer serve in the administration. His stated reason: opposition to the "ongoing war in Iran."

Within hours, a former top White House official was publicly suggesting Kent didn't quit on principle. He was about to get shown the door.

Taylor Budowich, President Trump's former deputy chief of staff, wasted no time torching Kent's exit on X:

"Joe Kent is a crazed egomaniac who was often at the center of national security leaks, while rarely (never?) producing any actual work."

"He spent all of his time working to subvert the chain of command and undermine the President of the United States."

Budowich's conclusion was blunt:
"This isn't some principled resignation — he just wanted to make a splash before getting canned. What a loser."

The drama of posting your resignation letter on social media tells you everything about the intended audience. This was performance, not principle.

Alleged DHS leaker has been terminated by Trump administration

Last week, reports broke that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem had discovered that a top official in her department had been leaking information. The administration announced that it would be pursuing charges against that official.

Every presidential administration has leaks, but the first Trump administration was littered with liberal bureaucrats who wanted to take Trump down. This time around, the administration made it clear that such leaks would not be tolerated.

Very early on, it was announced that polygraph tests would be used to ensure administration loyalty.

The DHS, at the time, announced, “The Department of Homeland Security is a national security agency. We can, should, and will polygraph personnel.”

Last week, Noem announced that she had identified a leaker within the administration and that a prosecution would be sought.

“And that’s the leaker on Venezuela. We had a very bad leaker. There could be some others. We’re hot on their trail but the leaker has been found and the leaker’s in jail and will probably be in jail for a long time.”

The warrant said that law enforcement was investigating Aurelio Perez-Lugones, a system administrator in Maryland who has a top-secret security clearance and has been accused of accessing and taking home classified intelligence reports that were found in his lunchbox and his basement, according to an FBI affidavit.”

Anti-Trump FBI Agent Arrested At JFK While Trying To Flee The Country

FBI Special Agent Johnathan Buma, known for his critical stance toward the Bureau since at least President Trump’s first term, was arrested on Monday at John F. Kennedy International Airport while attempting to board an international flight.

Buma, a 15-year veteran specializing in counterintelligence, faces charges of illegally disclosing classified information.

Authorities alleged he printed and shared approximately 130 confidential FBI documents in 2023. The documents included internal files related to investigations into a foreign country’s weapons of mass destruction program.

Court documents also allege that Buma shared a draft of a book about his career in federal law enforcement with colleagues, which contained sensitive information—including details about the FBI’s investigations into nuclear weapon threats emanating from overseas.

According to ABC News, federal agents apprehended the once-esteemed law enforcement official—who had accused the FBI of political bias in favor of President Trump—moments before boarding an international flight.

The Biden administration is formally considering commuting the sentence of the convicted felon who stole and leaked incoming President Trump’s tax records along with those of thousands of other taxpayers, in the biggest tax data heist in U.S. history.

A search of the Justice Department’s pardon database reveals Charles Edward Littlejohn — who just began his five-year sentence in May — has been assigned a clemency case number. It says a petition for “commutation of sentence” was recently sought and is “pending.”

A number of liberal watchdog groups, including Revolving Door Project and Patriotic Millionaires, have been lobbying President Biden to free Littlejohn from prison because they believe his leaks provided a “public service.” They argue he is a “selfless defender of tax fairness” for exposing how Trump and other wealthy Americans, including billionaires Elon Musk, Rupert Murdoch, Michael Bloomberg, and Jeff Bezos, take advantage of tax breaks to reduce their tax bills.

Littlejohn leaked the sensitive IRS data to the New York Times and the liberal news site ProPublica, which published them in a series of articles before and after the 2020 election.

Supreme Court Justices Elena Kagan and Neil Gorsuch have hinted that there could be an update as soon as the end of the month on the investigation into the leaked draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade.

Kagan made an appearance Tuesday at the Temple Emanu-El's Streicker Center in New York and said she expects justices to be updated on the investigation by the end of the month. Gorsuch also mentioned the leak inquiry last week, saying the committee overseeing the investigation has been hard at work, and he hopes to see it conclude "soon."

"I don’t know anything. I suspect my colleagues don’t know anything, except for the chief justice maybe, about what the investigation has turned up, if anything," Justice Kagan said after saying she expects an update soon.
