How a Woke Newsom Appointee Dismantled California’s Volunteer Firefighting Force

A high-ranking military appointee of California Gov. Gavin Newsom diminished the state’s emergency response volunteer firefighting units, according to Maj. Gen. Jay Coggan, retired commanding general of the California State Guard.

California is now struggling to contain destructive wildfires, which have killed 25 people and displaced more than 80,000 in the Los Angeles area.

Newsom appointed Matthew Beevers to serve as adjutant general of the California Military Department in May 2023. Beevers has a history of marching in LGBTQ pride parades and was investigated for alleged antisemitism against a subordinate, the Washington Free Beacon reported. Beevers denied making the antisemitic comment.

Shortly after his appointment, Beevers decommissioned the Emergency Response Command, a highly trained joint command.

Beevers’ decision eliminated Team Blaze’s autonomy, and it was slashed in size and moved under National Guard unit Task Force Rattlesnake.

“The California State Guard was fully operational,” a senior enlisted leader who asked to remain anonymous told The Daily Signal. “Between the boats, the fire team [Team Blaze], [Team] Shield, we were able to work organically and move as a unit and be operational. And what Beevers did was cut out every piece of it that was operational and made it a support.”

A Democratic campaign operative revealed that she is exiting the party after volunteering at last month's Democratic National Convention, which left her "disenchanted" with Democratic leadership.

In a Newsweek op-ed published Tuesday, Evan Barker described how she went from raising "tens of millions of dollars" for Democrats to distancing herself from a party she now believes is "totally out of touch" with everyday Americans.

Barker said she was initially "thrilled" to volunteer at the DNC, where Vice President Kamala Harris accepted the nomination for president. But now, OMG!

Invasive Pest Plant Removal "Event"

The Lake Worth City Tree Board holds its fourth Exotic Pest Plant Removal at the 17th Avenue North Natural Area, 1759 17th Avenue North 33460, on Saturday morning June 10th from 7:30 to 10. Exotic plants invasive to Lake Worth are prolific in this beautiful Southern Live Oak canopy.

The more residents that show up to volunteer at the June 10th invasive plant removal, the closer we get to removing exotic pest plants in the Natural Area.

The Tree Board wishes to thank community volunteers for their help at the April 29th Exotic Pest Plant Removal.

Tree Board Chair, Richard Stowe says “the early Saturday morning event is an opportunity for resident volunteers to see first hand how a seemingly innocuous common house plant like Pothos, or Devil’s Ivy (Epipremnum aureum) is a French Polynesian invader outdoors.”

Gloves and other tools will be provided.

Citizens Advisory Committee Bond Referendum

Under the Consent Agenda tonight are more appointments to the Citizens Committee that will help oversee the bond referendum. I have been told that there are a few members of the Finance Advisory Board who have their noses bent out of shape regarding this committee even being formed at all.

Earlier in the month, the Vice Mayor appointed Kathleen McGiveron and Peter Callaro to the Bond Referendum Citizens’ Advisory Committee for a term ending in July 31, 2020.

The Lake Worth City Tree Board holds its third Exotic Pest Plant Removal at the 17th Avenue North Natural Area, 1759 17th Avenue North 33460, on Saturday morning April 29th from 8 to 11. We will continue to remove South Florida exotic pest plants crowding out the native understory under the Southern Live Oak canopy. Volunteers are needed to help remove these exotic invasive plants.

The Tree Board wishes to thank community volunteers as well as Kristi Moyer, Susan Mason and Christen Mason for their professional oversight at the March 18th Exotic Pest Plant Removal.

Participating in this Exotic Pest Plant Removal on this city-owned property will help volunteers learn more about plants.

2nd Natural Area Clean-up in Lake Worth

The City of Lake Worth Tree Board will hold clean up on Saturday, November 5 in the 17th Avenue North Natural Area.  The Tree Board has partnered with the Solid Waste Authority in their Adopt-A-Spot program to make the clean-up possible.  This is the second in a series of clean-ups that the Tree Board has hosted in the city’s only remaining undeveloped oak hammock.  The goal is to restore the Natural Area to its natural splendor.

“The exceptionally hard working volunteers who came out for the first clean-up made a huge dent in removing the almost unimaginable amount of garbage. It was a tremendous success but we still need help to finish the job,” said Tree Board member Katie Curtis.  The first clean-up was held on October 15.

One thing that should be used more often are trash cans within the City of Lake Worth. Most people do a pretty good job at our beach but sometimes our major streets have a problem.

Two dozen kids from Lake Worth High School, in an event sponsored by the Rotary Club and the NAPC, cleaned up dirty grimy trash cans and painted them along Dixie Highway.

Even Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell was painting cans!

Guardian Angels

Someone posted that we should invite the Guardian Angels here to cleanup the streets.  They were in Lake Worth in 2007 to help with the gang problem. A few were upset with their presence as their fame and formidable stature were definitely intimidating as they walked through the downtown and on the streets in the south end. You couldn't miss their red jackets and red barets.

There are now more than 130 Guardian Angels safety patrol chapters throughout the world, with constant additions being made. And the grassroots community patrols that Curtis began also spurred the creation of neighborhood watch groups throughout the United States and around the world.

Signature Healthcare personnel were there. Signature will be sponsoring three more community benefit events in year 2014. Several citizen volunteers along with Mark Parrilla, president of Genesis Neighborhood Association in Lake Worth who put this event together, were working right along with Signature when I showed up.  Fr. Terence Belcher, Director of Spirituality for Signature HealthCARE of Palm Beach had secured Hoffman Companies of PB County that did all the prep work (pressure cleaning, soffet repairs, etc.)  prior to today's painting.

Home Depot, a large corporation always willing to help in community projects or fundraisers for worthy causes, exhausted its entire April budget for community donations by providing all the building materials, paint, brushes, etc.  Next month they have committed a new barbeque grill and patio furniture for this proud owner, Ms. Suk Grant who chose the color for her house.

This should be on Channel 12 News this evening as they were there filming. When it is finished, it will look fabulous.

No doubt about it--we have a great volunteer group in Lake Worth that is always helping others.  This is another event next week and Mark Parrilla is hoping for your help.

Mark is the president of the Genesis Neighborhood Association who says, "It is an open invitation to anyone who would like to help. We will also invite the entire commission, our city manager, Commissioner Shelley Vanna, Commissioner Priscilla Taylor and our local media outlets as well. The Chaplain at Signature, Fr. Terence Belcher, has secured a contractor who will be donating his services and coming to the house to take measurements of all the soffit work that needs to be done before we paint. Home Depot is donating the wood.

Offer to form Graffiti Task Force ignored by District Commissioner in Lake Worth

Well, heaven knows, we have plenty of it throughout our city. The above has been there for months.

Nearly two weeks ago, Katie McGiveron, Vice President of the ROLOH neighborhood association contacted  her District 1 elected official, to offer her services.  She told him that she would like to  form a Citizens Graffiti Task Force and paint over graffiti throughout our city, devoting Wednesdays to the task, her only available day. She asked that the city provide the paint.

At this point, she has never heard back from Mr. Maxwell who has been engaged in "shiny objects" and the above graffiti is still there for all who drive by, blighting our city and sending the wrong message.

The resident clean-up this morning at 1231 S. L. Street, Lake Worth.

This crime has been ongoing for years with the city sadly looking past it and the neighbors silently enduring it. It became a dumping ground for every loser around. Resident volunteers got there as early as 6am this morning and 'went to town' cleaning up this abomination.

This is the "State of the City."
