Red states eye Everglades-style migrant centers

With alligators prowling nearby and tents stretching across 30 square miles of swamp, Florida’s controversial new migrant detention site is attracting national attention from Republican leaders.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and President Donald Trump are urging GOP-led states to adopt their own versions of the “Alligator Alcatraz” detention facility, with several governors now moving to build their own sites, Fox News reported.

Georgia, under Gov. Brian Kemp, shared plans to convert a facility into what would become the nation’s largest migrant detention facility. Kemp’s spokesman said the state has long led on immigration efforts and is now working with the private sector and ICE to expand that role.

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ office confirmed a new 3,000-bed prison is in development. Sanders has already pushed legislation increasing penalties for undocumented individuals who commit additional crimes in the state.

Other states are following suit. Alaska officials clarified that while they are not planning their own version of the facility, they are aware of the ongoing trend. In a lighthearted remark, representatives told Fox News, “We don't have alligators, but we have lots of bears.”

"Actions have consequences. In California, a state that has long been ruled by progressives, the consequences of their policies are starting to hit home. Crime rates are skyrocketing, with violent offenses up by 13.5 percent and property crimes up by 6.2 percent.

These rising crime rates have contributed to an exodus of residents, making California one of the top states for population loss. Yet, despite all this evidence, the progressive Democrats in Sacramento are still pushing to defund the prison system by a staggering $1 billion.

Instead of making tough decisions and cutting spending where it’s needed, Democratic lawmakers are looking to slash the budget for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. They argue that the agency is bloated and that there are thousands of empty beds in prisons, a clear sign that the budget can be cut. But they fail to acknowledge that the empty beds are a result of their lenient policies that allow criminals to roam the streets rather than being locked up."

The budget, which calls for $293 billion in spending, comes after months of lawmakers staring down a deficit that, depending on the person making the estimate, swung from between $38 billion to $72 billion. Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom in his own budget proposal made drastic cuts, some of which the Legislature added back.

The Legislature’s budget included $1 billion for a housing and homelessness program local leaders have called critical. And to say it again, it also reduced funding for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation by about $1 billion.

The federal government is using its vast resources and its largest agencies to register new voters and expand mail-in balloting, with the help of nonprofits.

A federal effort to register voters using the government’s vast reach, including throughout the U.S. prison system, is raising concerns from critics who have said it won’t benefit Democrats and Republicans equally.

Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson wrote to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on March 6 alleging that agencies under the attorney general’s charge are “attempting to register people to vote, including potentially ineligible felons, and to co-opt state and local officials into accomplishing this goal.”

The allegation relates to President Joe Biden’s Executive Order 14019, which states, “The head of each agency shall evaluate ways in which the agency can, as appropriate and consistent with applicable law, promote voter registration and voter participation.”

Among other things, this order has forced U.S. Marshals to modify more than 900 contracts with prisons and jails to provide voter registration documents and facilitate mail-in voting for inmates, Mr. Watson wrote. “We have worked extremely hard to restore the confidence of Mississippi voters in our election process,” Mr. Watson told The Epoch Times.

“To have the Biden administration and the DOJ purposefully undermine these efforts and jeopardize the integrity of Mississippi’s elections is unacceptable.”

O’Keefe stated that WCCW has been “the tip of the spear with inclusivity in the prison system,” and that OMG News went to great lengths to safeguard the two women’s identities by dramatically changing their voices and blotting out their faces.

The detainees were identified in the film as “Inmate #1” and “Inmate #2,” and it was unclear how or when the interview took place.

In a development that is considered a significant setback for activists pursuing LGBT ideologies in Great Britain, the government there has banned nearly all men who claim to be women from women’s prisons.

The move, according to a report from the Washington Stand, “implicitly condemns the unisex prison policy advocated by President Joe Biden.”

The new procedures say that no one convicted of a future crime who is male – that is, has not had “gender transition” surgery – will be sent to a prison for women.
