British Navy's response to Iran delayed since repair yard only works 9-to-5

The Royal Navy's mission to intercept Iranian drone threats has stalled in port because the Portsmouth repair yard now operates on a "nine-to-five" schedule.

The high-stakes mission to protect a British airbase from Iranian drone strikes remains on hold while maintenance crews finish welding and system overhauls during standard business hours, according to union officials, The Telegraph reported.

The deployment of HMS Dragon, a Type 45 air-defense destroyer designed to intercept high-speed missile and drone threats to Cyprus has been delayed because the Ministry of Defence and private contractor Serco reportedly introduced these restricted shifts as a "cost-cutting" measure that sacrifices military readiness for budget targets.

As the HMS Dragon sits in dry dock, the U.K. finds itself lagging behind international allies who have already moved assets into the region. Military analysts point out that the air-defense destroyer is now expected to arrive in Cyprus a full two weeks after French and Spanish warships have already reached the theater of operations.

The sources told The Telegraph that the new £1 billion (approx. $1.34 billion) contract reduced essential cover and forced the Navy to rely on staff volunteering for weekends to get the ship combat ready, which it didn't.

Biden Needed 'Cue Cards' for Meeting With British PM

President Joe Biden needed "cue cards" for his tea and meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday ahead of the NATO summit in Lithuania today, the Daily Mail reported.

The report said that Biden landed in London Monday for meetings with Sunak and King Charles III before heading to the summit, calling Britain "a closer friend and greater ally" to quell his "anti-British" reputation in the commonwealth.

"We've got a lot to talk about," the Mail reported Biden saying during the meeting with Sunak. "I think we're doing well. We're moving along in a way that's positive. But our relationship is rock solid."

Russian state media has urged President Vladimir Putin to wipe the UK off the map using his most-powerful nuclear weapons.

Speaking against a background graphic showing the UK being erased from the world map, Kiselyov added: "This tidal wave is also a carrier of extremely high doses of radiation. Surging over Britain, it will turn whatever is left of them into radioactive desert, unusable for anything. How do you like this prospect?"

Kiselyov also threatened the UK with an attack by Sarmat 2, Russia's latest nuclear missile which was tested by Putin a fortnight ago, which he claimed could also completely destroy the country with just a single impact.

"(Their) island is so small that one Sarmat missile is enough to drown it once and for all," he said.
