Lake Worth IS a Sanctuary City

There are some who continue to deny that Lake Worth, Florida is a Sanctuary City. They even write about it, so wrapped up in their city propaganda box.

There is no specific legal definition of sanctuary city, but it generally refers to places where local law enforcement officers aren’t required to alert federal authorities to residents who may be in the country illegally. True, Lake Worth has no formal, written policy stating that we are, but we know that the PBSO will not pick up illegal aliens and hand them over to ICE, border Security or any government agency.

We managed to get on this list when we had the Lake Worth Resource Center or Mentoring Center (labor center) located at our Shuffleboard Courts. The Center helped illegals to find day labor, signed up people and helped them get Green Cards and helped them with their paperwork to eventually get citizenship.

City Manager Michael Bornstein replied to my e-mail on this subject back in July. My district commissioner who used to be all for border control did not bother to respond--

The blogger from College Park likes to blame Jennings, Golden and Mulvehill (I believe this myth started with a false report by Pat Parrish of the Lake Worth Herald at the time) when in fact it was Jennings, Golden and Jeff Clemens who voted on the Mentoring Center that opened in November 2008 before Mulvehill and Varela were elected.  Also on the commission at that time were Retha Lowe and Dave Vespo.  They agreed with the concept of a labor hall for illegals but did not want it at the Shuffleboard Court. Jennings was out by the time former city manager Susan Stanton closed the Mentoring Center and Mulvehill and Golden were votes to end it.

I've told the city how to get off of this list but they ignore it choosing to believe that they're not a Sanctuary City because there was never any resolution to that affect.  Tell it to every illegal who migrates here and all of those who have spread the word south of our border.  Tell it to Ric Bradshaw. The "White Elephant"

John Adair

No, I'm not talking about Engineer John Adair who designed most of the pools around here as well as our Lake Worth pool some 41 years ago as the white elephant.  Actually the White Elephant is how the city manager Michael Bornstein describes our Olympic pool that is not only dear to Mr. Adair but to all of the residents in this city, other than one who publicly said she "could care less." To this day Mr. Adair has not lost interest in it or in Lake Worth. When you create something that has withstood so many generations and given back so many memories and joy to so many people, it is a big part of yourself and who you are. On top of all of that, it is a great asset to own in the location it is and an asset we have had there since 1922.

Vice Mayor Maxwell's analogy may be on mark. He says that the pool was sacrificed several years ago in order for the Casino project to be allowed to pay for itself. It has been a strong feeling, even for some now on the dais, that everything we have in Lake Worth should be producing revenue.  Maxwell says that the pool was intentionally left out of the Casino plan. What about our gymnasium, our parks...they are not revenue producing but amenities for the people who live here. Not everything has to be revenue neutral or profitable.

Our trolley was eliminated several years ago as well because it was losing money. All of the elderly, infirmed and the poor had to find other transportation. Some, to this day, can't afford to go to Publix and many elderly do not drive. Our shuffleboard courts are being sacrificed as well even though it wasn't that long ago that we had big tournaments there. The Mentoring Center, a facility that attracted and catered to the illegal immigrant paid us $1 a year for awhile, took over the shuffleboard court building for two years and the shuffleboarders and  bridge playing Seniors were shuffled right out. Stanton came in and shut them down but by that time, the damage had  been done. Our courts were trashed and our seniors suffered in silence.

Sinclair Engineering says it will cost tons of money to get our pool in shape in order to open which is difficult to grasp in light of the fact that only a few years ago we had spent $500,000. Mr. Adair is studying Sinclair's second report and staff will come back with costs regarding staffing and the "bathroom problems" (bathrooms that were in the original Casino plan to be rebuilt and weren't) as well as other costs in order to hopefully open our pool once again beginning in 2013.

Illegal Hiring Halls and our Coddling Ways

L-Sol Rises, Shines is the title of an article in the Palm Beach Post on the illegal alien hiring hall in Jupiter, Florida. It is the only one of these centers left in Palm Beach County. Hooray for small things.

What it has accomplished in this past year:
4,757 registered employers
2,241 registered workers
4,115 jobs filled as of June 30
4,461 free lunches
534 people given free food from Food Pantry
97 people completing English lessons
54 people completing computer classes

Jupiter has more money than does Lake Worth and less sense. Jupiter gave El Sol a building right next to their City Hall, buying the building for nearly $2 million. They rent it to El Sol for $1 a year and Jupiter pays for the electricity.

In Lake Worth, we gave The Mentoring Center a building for $1 a year and those who used it totally trashed it within one year of the 3 year occupancy. This was to get the illegals off the streets. They are still on our streets and it looks like a Third World as you drive down Lake. And nothing gets me going more than someone living here as an immigrant who doesn't want to learn our language. One thing that we should be grateful for is that we don't live in Miami. I get so sick of hearing what a wonderful diverse city this is and "that's why I chose to live here." Goody for you. That is not why I moved here.

Our Shuffleboard Court building (and they can change the name of it to anything they want, it is still the Shuffleboard Court Building) ended up costing poor taxpayers a bundle. Maybe Jupiter has a better class of illegal alien there. Now the City of Lake Worth wants to jackhammer out the shuffleboards courts because they were so severely damaged and put in a park that we know is for the immigrants who still hang out in the inner city. The real reason is that the City does not want to spend the money refurbishing the courts for the old people. The demolition of the courts, for the moment is on hold.

Not one politician will ever admit that illegals commit crimes. They have also driven down our property values. Perhaps a lot are moving to Jupiter after trashing our city. Their culture is different and we are told that we must fit into theirs. When I take a visitor down Lake and they witness the action, they can't believe their eyes. It's sort of like, "Am I in America?"

Are city governments in business to give to illegals who cross our borders the free lunch at the expense of U.S. citizens and push out senior citizens from the shuffleboard courts? How did this happen? The City Manager convinced the commission to kick out The Mentoring Center but she also has convinced them to kick out the Seniors one more time and end our history. I'm not sure which is worse.

The deadbeat tenants are out and our building looks like hell. Even though they are responsible for its repairs, it sounded as if the City is hesitant to go after that section of the Lease...something to do with law suits. Why does everyone get all hot and sweaty when that word "law suit" is mentioned? Maybe that's why the Lake Worth Herald likes to write about them so often. Commissioner Scott Maxwell asked last night, "When has a law suit ever bothered you?"

It was a sad looking sight today as I drove by our Shuffleboard Court. I did not cross the yellow caution tape but took a photo of the parking lot which was full of broken glass and cigarette butts.

As Joe Kroll mentioned last night, they have a dumpster there and they are cleaning up the property. The contents belonging to the Mentoring Center have been relocated to one area of the interior of the building and are locked. It was also mentioned that the Mentoring Center, aka, Illegal Hiring Hall, said that their eviction notice is not legal because it was not sent by certified letter.

Last night's City Commission Meeting Lake Worth

Last night’s meeting was a long one. I left at 11pm before the commission liaison reports.

Mayor Varela conducted a good meeting and was sharp and articulate. Commissioner Maxwell showed restraint last night as well as his humor. When it came to the Labor Center being closed, Commissioner McVoy brought up that a few business owners were worried that now illegals would be hanging on the streets once again and we should consider that fact. No, Commissioner McVoy, the immigrants have ALWAYS been hanging on the streets plus they have totally destroyed our property at the shuffleboard courts. It was then asked where would they relocate and no one knew. Maxwell reminded them that wherever they moved, it would not be allowed by zoning.

Throughout the night, even though Mayor Varela read the wordage on the back of the comment card regarding outbursts, clapping, sneers, and name calling, the chatter continued off and on throughout the entire meeting, all coming from the back row. It was distracting on many occasions. I guess the Mayor didn't notice because he never called order in the Chamber. Some of the comments from the residents were loud and mean spirited—politics—with former candidate for Mayor, Loretta Sharpe, stating that no one on the dais listens to her anyway. We all feel that way at times. There are very few agenda items that are not already pre-decided by the Commission. What we think has no bearing, not really.

Upping the salary for the Commission fell on political ears. Not one commissioner was going to agree that they deserved more money than 100% less than poverty wage for their untold services to our community. Varela, in fact, is still trying to work out the details about taking 10% less than his $15,400 a year. This is a political hot potato and I can well understand their reluctance to even admit that they are underpaid especially when a citizen, Peter Timm, believes they should take NO salary at all. It is up to them if they want to be martyrs.

A marketing and re-branding Task Force was approved that will include four members from the list who were suggested by Commissioner Suzanne Mulvehill with each commissioner and Mayor being allowed to choose or recommend one member for the Task Force. Commissioner McVoy thought a task force with 7 members was more doable than 9. Maxwell wanted this board to have staff support. This will be brought back on January 18. This will be a voluntary board that is a necessity to get ready for our Millennium.

Rene Varela, saying that he wants our city to have a voice, asked that his Mayoral Conference trip to Washington DC be approved. He stated that even though he would be leaving after his term, he was “still the mayor.” He assured the rest of the body that he would have a full report upon his return. This is a precedent that should be followed by any commissioner who takes a trip on the taxpayer’s dime. Commissioner McVoy stated that even the South Florida Water Management where he works has ended all trips of this nature because of State budget constraints...if they go on trips, they pay out of pocket. I would have liked to have seen the commission take a much more forceful approach on this expenditure and voted it down along with all future travel of any kind. It was not to be. On a 3 to 2 vote with Mulvehill and McVoy dissenting, it passed. The 3 to 2 dais, that many times is a false perception, had a slight twist when Golden supported the Mayor’s trip. Politics again? Perhaps Golden will be running again afterall.

Rene Varela brought up the Lease at the CDC—it was allowed to lapse and Maxwell wants a full report from the City Manager on this and all leases in the city. Jo-Ann recused herself from the vote as she is a volunteer at the CDC. The public got to speak and one resident who was seated in the back row loudly accused Jo-Anne Golden of knowing this Lease had expired and that it was “illegal.” Perhaps there is some Ordinance regarding this but when any lease expires, the tenant goes on a month to month at the same terms as the expired lease. Under normal circumstances, there is nothing whatsoever illegal about this. Again, a resident playing politics.

Mentoring Center Today

I noticed several people hanging around the shuffleboard courts this morning so I stopped by the Mentoring Center (aka illegal hiring hall) on my way back from City Hall just to see what was going on. As you recall, they are supposed to be OFF our property as of January 1.


The entire exterior is filthy beyond imagination and that is too calm of a description for what I found. Cigarette butts all over the place, crap all over the sidewalks, people walking on our courts, the courts filthy with scum and mildew and the overall property remains with the effects of urine and total neglect. Overall, there were a lot of people who used this facility who had no respect for someone else's property.


When I took out my camera, the guy in the photo giving me the finger (who spoke good English) started shouting, "We have a Racist here." He announced to the group that I was a racist and an asshole. Another guy hanging out told me that the Mentoring Center told them to come back this morning and they would be told where they could hang out and continue to get free food, etc. As one of the "immigrants" walked by with an open container, he said that should never have been allowed. He was the reasonable one.

As we all know, those who were given a city lease for peanuts never took care of our property.

They should be billed for all the damage.

Lake Worth Herald and the Mentoring Center

Usually around election time in the City of Lake Worth we see more and more inaccuracies coming from The Lake Worth Herald and definitely reporting that is heavily slanted to one side of the political spectrum. Sometimes the reporting is just plain false.

The latest one from Mr. Parrish himself, (Commentary Section) while writing about The Mentoring Center saying, "The city is tilted by Commissioner Cara Jennings, Jo-Anne Golden and Suzanne Mulvehill who allowed the City to race 'pell-mell into the social services business by allowing The Resource Center'...
Lake Worth made a poor choice by allowing itself to be overwhelmed by a social conscience shared by three commissioners."

This is just plan FALSE.

To be accurate, former Jeff Clemens, Commissioners Jennings and Golden voted to allow and enter into a Lease with The Mentoring Center. Retha Lowe and David Vespo agreed with the concept but did not want it at the Shuffleboard Court.

Last night’s commission meeting was interesting only in respect to the politics.

The Mentoring Center located at our Shuffleboard Court will FINALLY close. Although giving the reason as economics and that we need the space for our own employees, the bottom line is, the City of Lake Worth has been complicit in an illegal activity—allowing illegal aliens to be hired for work from a city owned public building.

Four Commissioners approved of ending this $1 a year lease with The Mentoring Center. Commissioner Jennings filibustered the motion and voted Nay. Aside from all the freebies from Lake Worth taxpayers to support this illegal operation, last June, The City gave them $40,000 from a Grant.

The next interesting thing was Public Commentary. One had to do with the Mayor and his robo call in support of two candidates. Citizen Barbara Jean Weber asked him why he was supporting a candidate running against Commissioner Mulvehill when he voted with Mulvehill on most every issue over the past year. She waited for his answer, and waited, and waited. The bell rang.She took her seat.

Prior to this, Mayor Varela stated that he did not want the dais to be used for political purposes or words to that effect. Actually, during public speaking, we can say what we want, Mayor--First Amendment right and all. He answered Barbara Jean a little later by saying he did not bring his politics to the dais…it was his First Amendment right to support whom he chooses and he “will take the high road.” Well, that is a curious statement because in the Robo call he introduced himself as MAYOR Rene Varela. Mayor, you took the LOW road here.

Scott Maxwell also said to "leave politics at the door, that it was petty and childish." Sorry, Scott. There is nothing childish about politics. It is corrupt and disgusting at times but certainly not petty or childish, unless of course, you are involved in border-line unethical robo calls.

It seems that the contentious BAC PAC crashed a city meeting of owners, etc. at the Park of Commerce in order to address the attendees. It was reported that City officials left the meeting prior to them speaking. So, that makes it ethical? It has to make you wonder who told the PAC to show up. We know it was not Jennings, Golden or Mulvehill.

Jim Stafford talked about Party on the Plaza and the beer garden they have there…it competes with downtown businesses…who gave them a license; who holds the license, etc? I have been saying for quite some time that this event is not the same since the Chamber relinquished the responsibility. I hate the beer garden and want the art and vendors back.

Cara Jennings asked about the billboard at the Cultural Center and its support for two candidates. The Billboard used to be controlled by The City of Lake Worth. Under a former administration, I have been told, the City turned it over to the Chamber of Commerce and they have sole control of its content.

I do not want any city tax dollars going to the Chamber of Commerce…any grant money from the City…nada. As long as this is a political entity that is supporting candidates and issues, city tax dollars should never be used. In fact, rescind the agreement on the billboard with the Chamber.

At the end of the night, Commissioner Scott Maxwell went on and on about the casino, trying every which way to delay going forward. Commissioner, leave your politics at the door before you are seated at the dais.

Tomorrow's Commission Meeting

Unless you want to sit through presentation after presentation on the Agenda tomorrow night, don't bother showing up at City Hall until well after 6pm.

Tuesday night's City Commission has seven presentations on the Agenda. As each presenter gets 10 minutes, this could mean at least 70 minutes not including commission questions and comments. Perhaps we will all luck out and it will not be this long.

6. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Perhaps we can object to so many presentations under public participation.

What is important on the agenda will be The City Manager and Public Services Director's recommendation to discontinue the lease with the Lake Worth Resource Center. The Mentoring Center's occupancy of the Shuffleboard Court building has been a bone of contention since inception with the majority of residents never having supported it.

Also on the table will be discontinuing/not renewing a lease agreement with the Lake Worth History Museum and the Lake Worth Art League or Lake Worth Credit Union in order to provide additional space for City Staff and City programs.

Mentoring Center to Go

If there is any candidate running for elected office in the City of Lake Worth who does not agree that The Mentoring Center MUST GO, then chalk your campaign up to defeat. Don't work up any more sweat--stop walking right now. Stop spending campaign contributions and give the money back.

"This isn't about retribution against any organization," Mayor Rene Varela said. "This is about getting effective use of our space and our resources at a time when we should be buckling down."

This is about so much more than that--this Resource Center has always been about encouraging illegal aliens into our city. We say, "enough."

Lake Worth "Resource" Center - Grabbing the Cash

The Resource Center in Lake Worth is still promoting itself and still applying for Federal grants. That's what it's all about. The government will spend the money anyway so why not apply for all available federal money?

The feds provide millions in funding for projects aimed at improving the health and well-being of just about everyone, even The Mentoring Center and its owners. We are an entitlement country. The owners of this center know exactly how to work the system --

Yesterday, we got a double whammy from the Palm Beach Post. Dan Moffett, former member of the Post Editorial Board, wrote another pro-illegal immigration column. This time it was in support of the Mentoring Center, aka, illegal hiring hall, saying that Lake Worth and Jupiter should be held up as examples on how to get illegals off the streets (that's a good one) and intimated that we don't have problems with illegals because Jupiter and Lake Worth recognized that foreign workers "contributed mightily to their local economies." He also made reference to the law suit in Fremont that was forcing that city, because of the huge cost of defense, to back down on doing the right thing of implementing the law. What planet are you on, Dan?

All this has done is to encourage more and more illegal aliens to come to Lake Worth, to live here in over-crowded conditions who contribute to, and are a big cause of, the slum and the blight. This is what happens when you have a Sanctuary City and a government that believes it is all about "social justice" rather than protecting the citizens of their city, their State and their country. These politicians missed their true calling--a nun or a priest, not an elected government official.

The next article was about Lisa Wilson's Mentoring Center teaching a class of a dozen people on how to install solar panels...a minimum wage job. This is about the silliest waste of tax dollars yet but hey, it's Grant money--free. The government sets up these green jobs "scams" and there are always people smart enough to take advantage of them and elected officials stupid enough to believe in it all.

With their hands out, the owners of The Mentoring Center get hand outs...tax dollars that give them an excellent standard of living and they do everything within their power to perpetuate the legal swindle...free breakfast for the illegals...free lunch...more illegal aliens...job training for minimum wage...we teacha the Inglés...and FREE publicity paid for by you and by me, written by leftest regressive "progressive" thinking reporters of the Palm Beach Post who encourage the survival of their "American dream.

When will this legal nightmare end? When will the media report the real facts of the matter and interview the taxpaying citizen and hear what he demands from its government, (implementing the law) not the ACLU or those who are parasites? And does anyone think it just a coincidence that two articles appeared in favor of The Mentoring Center just when our city manager has proposed taking back our property from this group?

Lake Worth should have ignored immigration law

Dan Moffett's column highlighted the Lake Worth City Commission's late- night debate and resolution opposing the Arizona immigration law. It seems to be a complete waste of city time and resources passing resolutions that will have no real impact on the issue. Some commissioners appear to be grandstanding for political correctness and their own agendas while they should be focused on the many real challenges Lake Worth faces.

In all fairness, some positive changes are becoming evident: merging with the sheriff's office and overhauling the utility department. As a resident of Lake Worth for nearly 10 years, this is the best I have ever seen our city work.

Jeff, there have been some positive changes in Lake Worth but merging with the Sheriff's department is not one of them, if you consider cost. The Sheriff is costing us large fortunes and if it were not for their remarkable PR department and their officers presence on our streets and appearing at our neighborhood meetings, we would be able to look at the reality of this decision and come to a totally different conclusion. There is still plenty of crime and a heck of a lot more expense.

Perhaps their reaction time is quicker, I don't know. We could have put more cops on the street under our own police department. Why buy Clos Du Mesnil 1995, when a cheaper champagne will get the same results. Management was the problem. However, what we do know is, the Sheriff is not preventing crime. The only thing that will reduce crime in our city is to clean up the slums, the blight and the illegal immigration problem, not necessarily in that order. We need to make it very attractive for homeownership and reduce the vast amount of rental property. Implement a 287G program in PB County and close down The Mentoring Center. Arrest employers who hire illegal immigrants. The decay of our City has been going on for the last decade, not just the last four years as the Mayor said.

Feeling safer is only a perception. The reality is entirely different. The citizens, however, seem to want to support the PBSO no matter the cost (because most of them don't know the cost and those who do, don't care). Public safety makes up 49% of the budget with PBSO at 41%. We pay $1,098,022.23 each month for the Sheriff. Not only does Lake Worth pay the County for the Sheriff, we as taxpayers, pay the County each year on our ad valorem taxes, a percentage of which is for Public Safety...the Sheriff... and a separate tax for Fire/Rescue.

If we don't stop the waste, end the high salaries and benefits, stop the spending and giving it all away to the Unions, we are out of business. Even then, the crime will rage on. This City has been a money pit for way too long. It is time that we stand up to the Unions. Learn to say "no."

And what exactly is "overhauling the utility department?" Sounds like a sound bite from our Mayor's last campaign. What we need to overhaul is our Code Department...stronger code enforcement, not less. Let's "re-tool" the entire code complaint process--speed it up and take quick action against those who are allowing their property to look like junk yards.

I do agree with you that supporting a resolution against Arizona 1070 was inappropriate with 4 out of the 5 of our elected officials voting against Arizona in support of illegals.

Public Commentary at City Hall

UPDATE: I was told by a Commissioner that the reason there was NO public commentary for those items pulled in the Consent Agenda, Unfinished or New Business was that the Chamber was literally emptied after Public Commentary. Those advocates for the Mentoring Center stacked the Chamber.

Right now at City Hall there is public commentary regarding The Resource Center, aka, Illegal Hiring Hall. People are actually speaking in SPANISH!!! And when they complete their two minutes, they get applause.

Who stacked this Chamber once again? Which Commissioners? Lisa Wilson? Both? More? Progressives? People who live off of government for their very existence? People who are hell bent on ruining our city? Who?

This lack of government response to the illegal problem has been one of the main reasons many people sympathize with and support Arizona's SB 1070. We have "had it" and have no understanding why elected officials here and elsewhere turn their head and do not enforce the Constitution and the law.

Commission support for illegal immigration as well as support for The Mentoring Center that leases a city building for $1 a year and gets everything provided to them for free, and a facility that caters to the illegal alien, will not be forgotten in November.

Update: Donna Ross just informed me that she resigned from the CRA on Sunday night as she is relocating to SC. There are now 3 positions opened on the CRA.

Tonight, 24 applicants are trying for 2 positions on the CRA. Why do so many people want to be members of our Community Redevelopment Agency?--to ensure that Lake Worth follows their vision and path in redevelopment.

Right now we have $23 million in NSP2 money. That has to be an enticing reason to want to be a member. Just think what your influence can do to direct all that do re me.

Lisa Wilson has applied to this Board. Ms. Wilson is the Director of The Mentoring Center in a space that was given to her for $1 a year to find jobs for the unemployed as well as the undocumented/illegal immigrant which is against the law. Her business is funded through grants and government money. She lives in West Palm Beach and this business does not pay ad valorem. The way I understand it is, in order to become a member of a city board in Lake Worth, you must either live here or be a manager of a business or an owner of a business in our city that pays taxes. Does she? Who encouraged her to apply?

I was told that when questioned about all the computers at the Resource Center, aka illegal hiring hall and what they were used for, she intimated that the quesitoneer was shhhh, "racccccccist."

Personally, I would rather see anyone appointed to any of our City Boards but Lisa Wilson.

Lake Worth Mentoring Center

The Mentoring Center, aka Illegal Hiring Hall, will now have a workshop for the illegal alien and instruct him in becoming a naturalized citizen. The instructions should start with them 1) going back to their home country and 2) making application legally...getting to the back of the bus. Can you believe that the Supervisor of Elections will be attending?

WPBF reported a 70 year old man attacked and thrown to the ground while getting a drink of water at the Lake Worth recreation center. They meant the Lake Worth Resource Center...aka, illegal hiring hall.

We want to Know -- Illegal Immigration

Nope, not Lake Worth.

Back in 2005, Herndon, Virginia paid no attention to Federal Law and on a 5 to 2 vote elected to open a Day Labor Center on public owned property. Judicial Watch filed a law suit and won. Herndon had to shut down.

I haven't talked about the Illegal immigration problem in some time. And for me, it is no more a dead horse than any other issue in Lake Worth and I will continue to beat on it. Just because no one brings it up, even our anti-illegal immigrant commissioner, I will.

1. No one is speaking to this issue in Lake Worth. We want to know why.
2. We turned over a public building to accommodate an illegal act. We want to know why.
3. We want to know why Lake Worth won't follow the law.
4. Why has there been a Pod, (with graffiti on it) on our property for over 2 months when it is against Code?

The 1986 Immigration Reduction and Control Act (IRCA), makes it illegal for an employer to hire an illegal alien. Violation of this law involves the felony of concealing, harboring, and shielding illegal aliens from detection and is demonstrated when employees lack work authorization documents, are paid in cash, Social Security or federal taxes are not withheld, and the employer fails to pay employer contributions.

It is not the potential employer's problem to ask if someone can legally work here when they are lead to believe that The Mentoring Center and the City of Lake Worth are behind the hiring of alien labor and it is alright. It is certainly not their problem when the City sends out a flier in the Utility bill asking residents to hire from this Center.

We want to know why Lake Worth continues to aid and abet.

Blight begets Blight

Just a few immigrants milling around today and one lone car in the parking lot. What IS going on at The Mentoring Center, aka, illegal labor hiring hall?

This Pod has been on the Shuffleboard Parking lot for weeks and has added blight to our downtown. Now some wiseguy has painted graffiti on the Pod. Blight begets blight.

For all of you east of Dixie and who continue to say that crime is "down" in order to justify the costly decision to go with the Palm Beach County Sheriff, the cold hard facts state otherwise.

In seven days through February 4, we had 251 crimes. There were two vehicle recoveries but then two more car thefts.

What is causing all of this in our city? Drugs and gangs and more and more poor people who are unemployed. There was even a guy with balls who stole a condom the other day. We encourage these people to come here by not addressing the slum and blight. This is what you have and this is what you will get.
