Mosque-based Girl Scout troops are using the Girl Scouts banner to teach Islamic values, hijab, prayer, Quranic study, Ramadan observance, Palestine messaging, and mosque outreach to children.
The issue is transparency and mission drift. Parents sign up for Girl Scouts, not religious programming laundered through a national girls’ organization.
If a mosque wants Islamic youth formation, call it that. Do not smuggle it into a trusted civic brand and pretend badges, cookies, and campouts are the story.
SALAM Islamic Center openly advertises its Girl Scout program as providing “Strong Islamic Values.” Its Education page repeats the phrase while listing Girl Scouts alongside the mosque’s weekend school, Quran memorization program, and Islamic-learning center. [Luthmann]
