Fa la la la la -Tomorrow night at Lake Worth City Hall

Comment Up

Tis the season to be jolly-

and to allow the city commission to complete the ego of the Vice Mayor and to make him a happy camper during this joyful holiday season. There will be a workshop tomorrow night (normally the public can not speak) at 6pm in order to discuss:

1. Pros and Cons of appointing an Interim City Manager from current staff.
2. Pros and Cons of appointing an Interim City Manager from external candidates.
3. Pros and Cons of using services of a search firm for the recruitment of a City Manager.
4. The impact of a City Manager vacancy on the organization,

The irrational and hasty votes for termination from Mayor Triolo and Commissioner Amoroso, who went along like reindeer pulling Maxwell's sleigh to fire the city manager, cost the taxpayers of Lake Worth $124,395 to say "bye, bye" to Susan Stanton and allowed Maxwell to get his X'mas jollies. Ho, ho, ho.

What other costs will we expect? Hopefully, we will find that out tomorrow night. For a commissioner who constantly says he won't spend one more penny of taxpayer money on this or that, it was easy for him to vote to terminate Susan Stanton, someone with whom he had a personal grudge, just like it is easy for him to take that free lunch.

Maxwell hates people and it is his powers and supporters that persuaded the others to go along.

I was shocked and dismayed at the sudden firing of our city manager. Susan cleaned up the mess at City Hall that she inherited from a series of inept city managers. She WAS in touch with residents, always willing to chat with us and she spoke and answered many varied questions at my neighborhood association's meetings. Bah Humbug! taking someone's job just before Christmas. Now we have a big financial loss and the loss of a tough manager. I am disappointed!

What a face on that cat. It looks just like Maxwell when he is on the dais.

It was time for Stanton to go before she did anymore damage to the City

Can you name the damage please and be specific. Also, can you support any allegation with proof that she is responsible? Txs.

Let's start with the purchase of the IPADS totally uncalled for in a city in financial trouble.

Ok-that's fair. But let me ask you, why didn't the commission object? Why didn't Maxwell run his mouth on that? Please explain.

The total did not have to be approved by the commission, therefore it was a done deal when she gave them to them. Why was the expenditure not passed by them even though SHE did not have to

I do not know the circumstances that lead up to this purchase. How much did they come to anyway? Was it budgeted and previously approved in the budget? I realize that the purchase of Ipads is contentious with some people. However, in the scheme of things, it is a small amount of money. Until I know how it all came about, it is hard to comment on this.

I don't think there is any explanation that will suffice for you, but perhaps I can point out another perspective. The motion to terminate the CM contract was not made for cause, but a belief that it was in the City's best interest. That same decision has been made many times with sports teams as well as private and public companies. If the motion had been to terminate the CM's contract for cause, I could understand the dissent and venom if supporting facts were not provided. The fact is the CM was employed at the will of the Commission and could be dismissed upon a majority vote as was done.

Everything you said is true, however it doesn't make it right. And it has absolutely nothing to do with VENOM. It is my opinion along with many in this city and the Palm Beach Post.

Because I disagree with it does not make what I say venomous. That is your prejudicial adjective for what I think and what I believe. You don't like Stanton, I get it. She was always nice to me. Sometimes you have to be nice to get someone to be nice in return. It sort of is common sense. Maxwell should have tried it. Strong women is not his forte. Yours either I guess.

So many people in this community are penny wise and pound foolish. You complain about $12,000 in IPADS while you applaud a hasty decision that will cost tens times as much - at minimum. Do the math - There is an average of 200-300 pages of back-up per meeting. An average of 5 meetings a month - 8 people on the dias, that's 10,000 photocopies a month just on agenda packets. The Ipads were a cost saver, not to mention they help our elected offcials be more efficient with their work. Go get angry about a real issue - like why it seems 3 members of our new commission seem to always know what's on each others minds before the meeting starts. Or that our new commissioner thinks his opinion IS justification and rationale in and of itself and that we residents are worthy of an explanation of his behavior. Talk about arrogance. Or, how about our new Mayor who couldn't understanbd the budget enough to even have a discussion about it two weekds ago, but last week was confident enough in the goings on at city hall to fire the City Manager. Don't be conserned about IPADS, be concerned that your city is being run by a stock boy at Target with a Napolean complex.

Get it right: you say Maxwell doesn't want to spend a cent on shiny things and one commissioner say he doesn't want to spend a dime. Pay attention to detail; a penny here, a dime there and sooner or latter you talking about real money.

By the way, for my money there was no good time to fire her; she was rude to me and I she lied about the Utility bill charges. Our former Mayor said she also lied to him.

A penny here, a dime there. You are focusing on small potatoes when you tell me to get it right and focus on detail. Paying attention to detail I do on a routine basis. Sorry she was rude to you. Rudeness is not a reason to fire someone. It is a reason to correct someone however. Were you rude to her?
