College Park is taking a "bite out of crime"

Oh gawd.
Too bad that Mary and PBSO cannot get the rest of the city crime free and cleaned up. College Park is such a small elitist section of the city that demands it, but the hell with the rest of the city. PBSO needs to make sure when you make the call y'all that they care and are kind to the callers calling in with out the attitude. Sometimes this is not the case. Lake Worth as a whole still has a long way in being like College Park. Mary couldn't do much with Little Guatemala crime, College Park is a completely different population of elitist wannabees that speak out and do more than most of the other NA that have majority renters. It will be nice when we can see the entire city crime free and cleaned up without blight and all the deplorable conditions. When the city leaders change codes and promote the whole city as a clean and safe place to live in then maybe more will invest in all parts of the city and call Lake Worth home, now people who buy here only buy to live in places like College Park, the rest buy to buy renters to rent out to low income and immigrants, to make a profit. Renters don't care for the most part nor take pride. Too bad we can't get Mary to run for mayor again, she would probably be good.
Mary moved out of the TRNA neighborhood. Perhaps crime had something to do with it. Mary does a lot of work for the betterment of the city. I recognize Mary's hard work and interest and don't have a problem with Mary other than her calling me a sociopath during the General Obligation Bond campaign. (Elections bring out the worst in people sometimes) I don't recognize her demeaning description of me but I will give credit, good or bad, where or when it's due. :)
I know Mary does a lot of volunteering in the city. But I can't personally stand the sight of her anymore since she turned in to a shill for the pro-development crowd. I ever wonder whether she hasn't accepted something under the table in exchange for being the mayor's cheerleader for tall buildings, for borrowing $65 million to "fix our streets" and now for transferring control of our public beach to a private developer with no track record!
You forgot one. She wanted to ruin the ROLOH neighborhood for a national ballfield at John Prince Park.

There are some nice people in College Park . Unfortunately, there are 2 women there (don't know who else they are friendly with as I don't pay attention)whose names I won't mention (they have never been mentioned on any blog that I know of; probably no one except the neighbors would know them)who just love to spread vicious rumors and I don't know why.
It's easy to say "sticks and stones..." and "just ignore them" but when they start disrupting your life it becomes a bigger issue.
According to tem I'm a crack whore, drug dealer etc. If they knew me they would know how absurd that is.
I have friends who try to use their cars as little as possible and commute by bike. When I do that you wouldn't believe the gossip it causes.
I don't know whether to feel sorry for them or call a lawyer.
I try not to judge the whole neighborhood by these two but it's hard.
It was ROLOH's own representative who made the motion to endorse the national ballfield at John Prince Park and was unanimously passed by representatives of all other NA's at that NAPC meeting.
Incidentally, this happens quite often. A representative adopts a position at a given meeting only to found out their own constituency does not approve of his/her vote. Trying to go back and change the outcome of the vote is very hard to do.
Knowing Mary as I do, I can assure you she is no shill for anyone. She will work herself tirelessly for anything that benefits Lake Worth. She is one of Lake Worth's best.
This is what happens sometimes when people don't know what the people feel for whom they represent or don't consider all the facts. This is why Congress gets into so much trouble...we need to sign the bill before we know what's in it, Pelosi.
The truth of the matter is, whether Robert made a mistake that day would not have changed the outcome of the vote. After he thought about it he realized all the repercussions for his neighborhood and the surrounding one that was also against it and rescinded his vote for the record. He was one voice in an NAPC big political sea for destroying John Prince Park and causing a mess in our neighborhood.

Manny, if you check the Internet, most all blog comments are by anonymous. You are one of the few who stand up... (and I do know who Manny is) that's what's so great about America, right? You get to call anyone a name and spout off to your heart's content. Do you still live in a ghetto? :)
Lynn, Thank you for responding to my post above about ROLOH's first vote for the ball park in John Prince Park the way you did. I thought you probably wouldn't post it as most people think there is some diabolical scheme to throw our ROLOH neighbors under the baseball bus. It was never intended that way and this issue was one that drove an unneeded wedge in our community. It became personal between very well intentioned active citizens and feelings got hurt. Nobody involved wants to see Lake Worth or her neighborhoods get hurt.
If the objections had been brought up at the first meeting when the proposal was presented as a good thing for Lake Worth, I feel certain the NAPC would have taken "no stance" if it were to cause the division it did.
Now that the point is moot, we need to return to a cohesive group for the collective betterment of Lake Worth.

Mary has been on the opposite side of the majority of residents of this city on issues of extreme importance. She has fought against the will of the people on heights, the ball field, the bond and now development of our beach. I know she does a lot of volunteering. But she's also at risk of doing the city a lot of harm by her support of these things. On balance, her record is not a good one.
You say she's not a shill. Ok, then she really does love tall buildings? Wants darker streets in our downtown? Wants to see less blue sky on a daily basis? She really thinks the Casino building at the beach is not big enough? That the parking lot at the beach is not full enough? That our beach can really handle more people? More cars? That a big developer coming in will fix all of Lake Worth's problems? I mean what the hell.
Really unfair and untrue to say Mary might be a shill for anyone. You obviously don't know her at all, but still feel it's ok to blast her integrity. Really really wrong of you.
Why don't you attempt to answer, if only for yourself, the questions posed above? Does any of it make sense? Why taller buildings? Why give our beach to a developer? What is going on? It's not unfair. It's necessary that we get answers to these questions. Why are a few people like Mary Lindsey trying to make our city into something that the majority does not want??
I'll give it a stab.... First, it's rhetoric like the dark skies downtown from the tall buildings lies that caused so much animosity. If you all anti everything, keep Lake Worth poor people hadn't done such a good job depicting the Gulfstream Hotel as the center of our downtown and not recognizing that good sound urban planning teaches it would be smart to allow a taller hotel in and amongst the taller buildings that are already there way East of our REAL downtown, we would not be viewed as such a joke throughout the county in this regard. You were very good at confusing a lot of people. That makes anyone interested, and there were quite a few of us, who wish Lake Worth to prosper with a more vibrant East end, "growth whores" right Katie?
Second, The bond was not a clear majority and doing a victory dance over 26 vote margin is a bit lame. Even though I voted against it, I did it knowing we might be passing up a real opportunity to stop the deterioration of our streets. Mary wasn't beating the drum for the bond as much as you insinuate. Many people who voted yes had reservations, but thought the good outweighed the bad.
Third, I've spoken with Mary a lot and never heard she was all for the beach development plan. I don't know how she feels about it. I personally, along with quite a few others, wanted to wait to see what the plan was. How dare us! We should all just take the word of an anonymous agitator from South Palmway's lies before the plans are even presented.
Now that it's out, there are some aspects about it I like, especially the replacement of the pool building and smaller pools. There are some aspects I don't like, especially the "private club" aspect. More shops and restaurants ON THE FIRST FLOOR would help the rest of the beach businesses. At least they addressed the parking situation you asked about. Why don't you ask Mary how she feels about it? She is not that shy.
Bottom line anonymous @ 10:56 and 11:54, Mary does more in one day to help this city than you or I do in a month. And that is if you are very active. She is out at every neighborhood clean-up, every PRO Lake Worth Event, new home dedication, volunteering to bring neighborhood associations together while others try to tear them apart.
I wish she could be cloned.
Anti-everything? LOL. We're keeping Lake Worth poor? You are insulting and perhaps that is why you keep on losing. As far as the GO bond is concerned, we had a handful of people knocking on doors with less than $6,000 bucks whereas the city had $50,000 plus the developer PAC with $20,000. We had a miracle winning by 25 votes. Just think if the playing field had been even.
The pool is perfect just the way it is. Why are you never happy about anything? Why do you continue to want to change our city when people like a low-rise downtown and our casino/complex the way that it is. Planners don't have all the answers here and neither do your developer friends who would benefit.
It is crazy considering we just spent $13 million and now you want to change our beach---don't like the pool, don't like the number of shops, etc. We have enough shops and they are all doing well. Instead, you want to turn over control to some bozo and throw in the parking to boot. No one wants to hear Hudson Holdings' plan...we just don't want them on our beach--period and the city manager should never have done what he did. The citizens don't like secret and sneaky.
The city manager should not have tried a new and different way to get the place rented so that those of us who pay taxes aren't footing the bill for 4 more years? I appreciate that he does not just do what some other poster on your site suggests, to just put someone on it to rent it. Here we have an example of piss poor planning and poor decision making by your heroes. The "historic" building NEVER had a restaurant upstairs. Who's brain fart was that? Now it sits empty for 4 years and who's paying? I know I am and I'm getting tired of it.
Maybe Ryan Maier has the answers. Sneak in a couple partitions and rent them out as storage spaces.
What don't you understand about a no vote for the GO bond? That's how I voted. We do need the road work and most, not all of the wish list they laid out. They just bit off too much and got spanked for it. By 26 votes.
Our downtown is centered around the Lucerne Condo area. It does not extend from A Street to the Intracoastal.
We have an 11 story building on one end and an 85' tall building on the other. The downtown is low rise except for the one condo. The horrible, disgusting and dispicable people you dispise voted to keep it much the same as it is with the only exception for a hotel.... East of Federal. Not in the downtown, which is West of Federal.
The commission RAISED heights in the Comprehensive Plan and this is why the Political Action Committee was formed to allow the people to vote and tell you what they wanted in our downtown. Whether you believe the downtown is one or two city blocks or not, does not matter. The referendum was predicated on what you did do the heights and kicking out the P&Z board, Historical Board and packing them with "your" people.
You may think that the downtown is "centered" around the Lucerne but that building stands out like a big thumb. It has action only because of Kilwins and Starbucks that are located there.
Perhaps a new commission might have the answers for our Casino, not just Ryan Maier. Of one thing I am certain, with a new commission it will be ALL OUT IN THE SUNSHINE. My suggestion--hire someone who can do the job.
Your adjectiv4es and descriptions of this commission and their backers are words I have never used. It is only your side of politics that seem to demean by throwing not only stones at people but gigantic rocks.
Raising taxes is never embraced by property owners particularly laying one on them for 34 years and hiding the fact and never telling us the roads would only last for 15 years. The GO bond could have been defeated by a wide majority if we had the resources as did the city. It was about TRUST and it still is and I am proud of those 25 people who brought it over the top for the people.
