In case you didn't see Margaret Menge's comment on my blog yesterday, this is what she says about The Lake Worth Tribune--
It wasn't nice of Commissioner Andy Amoroso to tell businesses not to advertise in the paper. And it was wicked of Wes Blackman to tell people to steal stacks of my papers and for Mark Parrilla to do it. But ultimately, it was my task to make the business work. I needed to put together a better sales team, and to focus more on the business, and less on the journalism. Of course, as a journalist, this would be hard.
Many people have told me they would like to help bring the newspaper back. And I think there is a possibility of this. Certainly, this town is big enough to support a weekly newspaper, if not a daily paper. And there are plenty of small newspapers all over America that make it work. So stay tuned.

I really hope that it does come back. I support the paper and think it was terrific. Please come back.
While I heard many positive comments about the paper and the format, it seemed apparent to many that the circumstances surrounding the timing of the up-start of the paper (and its shut down)as well as how one single Mom could finance it with little to no advertising seemed dubious at best and more likely diabolical.
The scheme worked well. Congratulations. Maier, the inexperienced sister city board member and never volunteer was elected by a large margin over a well educated, very involved, community minded volunteer and public servant.
Yep, he is a friend of developers. Lake Worth could use some development. Even a tall hotel in our hotel district, East of Federal Hwy, near where all those other tall buildings are located.
But that would probably make Lake Worth more valuable and wouldn't fit into the "Keep Lake Worth Poor" mantra of your friends that like to practice "Monkeywrenching". Google it.
Thanks to the recent election, and more importantly, the coming one, Lake Worth will continue its one step forward, two steps back. The forward movement is probably near its end.
print media for the most part is slowly dying, especially for the dailies. Major papers are merging to share printing and distribution costs. Advertisers are getting more bang for their ad dollars with digital than with print. Remember all the free pubs....real estate mags....Car and boat trader.....Employment weekly...etc.....all gone to digital.

The only reason I allowed the above comment (because it is full of false assumptions and demeaning commentary) is to let readers know what they are up against in this city. They already know but it is good to have it right in their face.
Pretty sickening commentary from obviously an articulate person. Szerdi lost because no one trusted him. Maier has a college degree so the only difference here is their profession--one a property owner and a small business owner (Maier) and the other an architect who played footsy with his employer Hudson Holdings who still wants our beach (Szerdi).
What type of small business does ryan run out of his home?
Commissioner Maier does not operate any business out of his home.
The paper was great to show the other side of life in LW!

the ITN (just listen to the audio) showed who was dumb & dumber!
He's still pushing the city to hire a propagandist to push his poop!
What does he call it - a public relations person? Really - still trying
to get his way! The HH Szerdi ship was not just a little fail it was an
EPIC FAIL! Wake up and smell the coffee John and address the chair and
stop trying to turn around as if you were still on the dais! We're done

I miss your paper, Margaret. It was nice not to shovel pelican poop for a while. Hope you can come back. We need a newspaper about Lake Worth in our town.
good for you, Margaret. I hope it comes back too. On another note, what is wrong with the idiots in this town who act as though a brand new four story building is akin to a slum?? If you can't make low rise work (see Delray you morons) then step aside and let smart people get it done.

How did I have the money to start the Tribune? I worked and I saved.
For three years I worked full time, while paying low rent and driving an old car.
Instead of buying a home and a new car, as most people working at this income level would have, I saved. And when the job ended, I started the newspaper.
The Tribune was the product of many years of thinking about what a newspaper should be and what it can be. I'm proud of what it was, and hope I'll be able to have another go at it someday.

I'm sure you'll get your chance just before the next election.
Unfortunately I have no doubt at all that she will bring back her paper for sure, approcimately 90 days before March 2016 election.
