Service Animal bill - HB 71

Comment Up

Remember this!

Often times you see someone who has a "service dog/animal" and you wonder about it.  But more than just being curious about the animal next to you as you are munching on your hamburger, you wonder about the owner...is he/she scamming the system? There are plenty of con artists who live in condos where no dogs or pets of any kind are allowed.  We don't even allow an itsy, bitsy turtle living in a bowl here.

Starting July 1, service animal owners cannot be asked about their disability or whether they are entitled to have a service animal, but they may be asked if the animal is a service animal and what tasks it performs to assist its owner.

Its out of control, not everyone wants to be in the company of pets all the time. Dogs at crowded festivals are miserable, their owners entitled to annoy the rest of us, bragging about how easy it is to get the service designation.

Responsible dog owners punished by frauds. I happen to love animals and don't mind them around as long as they are not bothering others. Many of the owners have pets that probably should just stay home!

This does little to nothing to reduce the problem of fake service dogs. But I recognize that the state can't do much since the ADA is a federal law. The Federal gov needs to step in on this one to stem the abuse of the service dog laws. I'm a pet owner and I generally love well behaved pets, but pets don't belong in Publix or other restaurants and I'm tired of these old ladies with their purse dogs thinking they can take them anywhere. Every time I see one in Publix, which is just about every time I go (during season, not quite as bad during summer) I complain to Publix but there is little they can do as well or they will get sued for even asking these questions.

Little old ladies? LOL. Sort of like Paris Hilton. But I agree with you.
