For the Herald and all of you who mock scientist and commissioner Chris McVoy for bringing up the effects of sea level rise--tonight's agenda addresses that very thing. Water Department Director Larry Johnson says it's important to evaluate the future sea level rise effects on our well fields.
Per the back-up: The Water Utilities Department is committed to assuring a sustainable water supply for the city, including the potential effects of sea level rise on the coastal saline intrusion in the aquifer. The model simulation will use the existing variable density SEAWAT model that was developed in support of the 2012 South Florida Water Management District Consumptive Use Permit. The previous model demonstrated that the reduced surficial withdrawals included in the SFWMD permit stabilize the projected salt water intrusion with the existing sea level.
The proposed simulation will address the effects of estimated sea level rise. The simulation will be run for a 50 year time period.
Mock Roos & Associates was the Engineering Consulting firm selected by the City of Lake Worth as for a continuing services contract, Contract No. RFQ 12-13-302, through the Consultant’s Competitive Negotiation Act (Florida State Statutes 287.055) procurement process. Under this Task Order, they have been selected to perform complete Wellfield Modeling Services to Evaluate Future Sea Level Rise Effects by the Lake Worth Water Utilities Department.
MOTION: To approve/disapprove the Proposal with Mock Roos and Associates for Wellfield Modeling Services to Evaluate Future Sea Level Rise Effects for a price not to exceed $29,590.
This is one of the more sensible expenditures and we hope that the commission will approve.

I have never mocked him about it, but the once monthly lectures were getting to be to much, that's why I know listen to the meetings at home if he starts his ranting I can mute. Of course if there is something I want to speak on or hear what the commission has to say about a subject, I attend City Hall, and pray this is not the week for the Sea Level Rise Lecture.
Since it's on the agenda, be assured that you will be listening to someone speak of it. Perhaps Maxwell, Amoroso, etc. will agree that there is such a serious thing as sea level rise :)
I honestly thought that you would see beyond this hoax. South Florida is sinking, the water is not rising. Too much water usage and too much weight from development. Florida only builds on the perimeter and that is yet another issue. A case can be made for stopping all highrise development, but not because of overcrowding but because of weight and water usage. Global warming (the single greatest hoax ever seen to mankind) has nothing to do with what is happening all over the coastal areas.
Anon at 8:05am. Maybe it's time to sound the 'abandon ship' alarm... I've got the perfect solution... Why don't all the dang Yankees pack up and leave us natives to fend for ourselves. We did just fine before these short-timers showed up. That would take care of the extra baggage and weight of development. Maybe they can move to California, where they can pray for rain and wait for the big earthquake to sheer off the weight west of the San Andreas fault. Now that's a win win!
