Keep your Butts at home

Lake Worth Beach moves to ban cigarette smoking at beach

"Looking to spend a day relaxing on the sand and surf at Lake Worth Beach?

Keep your butts at home.

Cigarette butts, that is.

The city has begun work toward passing an ordinance that will prohibit smoking at the beach and municipal parks. A new law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in June empowers cities and counties to regulate smoking, overturning previous legislation that bestowed the right to control outdoor smoking only to the state.

During a beach cleanup last month organized by the nonprofit Plastic Symptoms, volunteers found between 200 and 300 cigarette butts on Lake Worth Beach."

This is definitely something of which I approve and I like that the commission is including this ban at all municipal parks.

Read about it...

If you can't enforce it, what is the point!

I don't know how many times they do beach clean-ups, but 200 to 300 cigarettes does not sound like very many. Who smokes these days? Kids and Homeless people. Both irresponsible groups. You can beat people up, stab them, shoot them, push them off of the train platform, in front of a moving train, and they are talking about an ordinance to stop smoking on the beach.

We just get more ridiculous as the days go by.

How about picking up the toilet paper!

I'm really happy about this ordinance...hope it passes. How dare obnoxious smokers use our beach as a garbage pit. Lifeguards will be watching for these abusers.

And then what?

So much for "Free Florida."

What are they gonna ban next? Sometimes I get so sick of these hypocrites.

Next they're going to ban coolers because people leave cans behind sometimes.

Sheesh. Big Brother is alive and well.

I went down to John Prince Park about an hour ago and cleaned up all the cigarette butts and garbage left at the bench. It's ridiculous people continue to trash public property.

They can have all the laws they want about cigarettes in public places or beaches or Parks or anywhere but they won't enforce it and people will still do it anyway it's a real problem! They already have those laws in Indian River county at the beaches you're not supposed to be able to smoke but people do anyway nobody follows the laws anymore, nobody enforces them there's no law and order in this country anymore no respect for laws, it's sad! It's always the people, the people with dogs the people who smoke or the people who drink alcohol they're always the ones that always break all the laws it's very noticeable they drink where they're not supposed to they smoke where they're not supposed to and they bring their dogs where they're not supposed to, they just don't care at all it's very sad! They all act like all the laws are for everybody else but not for them there's just no morality anymore!

There is not much you can do about it. Take a little ride over to the alley behind PNC on Lucerne. I don't think you would pick that mess up. That area was spotless in the middle of May. The homeless did that. They are contemptuous of you and your way of life. The more you pick up after them, the more they will litter. They enjoy it.

If you go back to John Prince Park next Sunday, the same trash will be there waiting for you to clean up again.

Face it Lynn, our beautiful country is turning into s pigsty!

@6:45...so, your suggestion is to ignore it...not do a thing about making our city better...cleaner because there will always be slobs. I don't think so. If everyone did their part out here... If we all just ignore it, it will most assuredly be a pigsty.

Lynn, you're a day late and a dollar short!

@9:20...The city might be a little late but our governor opened up the law to allow them to make this ordinance. Hope it works for all.

We can have all the laws we want about dogs at the beach smoking at the beach alcohol at the beach, The problem is will the police and authorities enforce the laws? Because they do not enforce a lot of laws today why do we have so many illegal immigrants just coming into our country? No one respects laws anymore our country has gone to hell!

I like the Governor. If he wants to do something constructive, why doesn't he sentence all of these Scofflaws to pick up the garbage and cigarette butts. What he did, is what you call feel good legislation. There is no way in hell that kind of a law/ordinance, can be enforced, let-alone prosecuted.

And you know it!
