Transparency - Becoming a memory in Lake Worth?

Comment Up
It is readily apparent that transparency in Lake Worth government is less than it used to be. Is it becoming a thing of the past or just not too important in the scheme of things?

The City Clerk says she only has to do what she is required to do by law. She must take Minutes but audio and video are not a requirement even though we have the technology for both and use it excepting on a night where it might not be convenient to do so. She also doesn't have to keep political committees up on the latest reporting forms/laws--it is up to us, she tells us.

Tonight's Budget work session is on Internal Service Funds (whatever that is--we are assuming they are enterprise funds of some sort) and there will be discussion on the CIP.   The Capital Improvement Plan was submitted to the commission on September 11, 2012 and was for the period 2013 through 2017. I would suppose that there are changes as everything as far as the budget and according to the mayor, is a living document.

Commissioners, do you get back-up? If not, why not?  How do you even ask intelligent questions without studying the information beforehand? If you get back-up, why can't the public get it too?  Why do these things continue to happen with more frequency? How do we hold your feet to the fire? Why does the City only provide 3 years of Agendas and Minutes and continues to purge information that can easily be on and stay on the web site??  Other than just wanting to be less transparent to the public, there is no reason why this information can’t be provided.

So, unless you report the "company line" and are known as a "company man," you are not privy to some of the information within the city and this breeds citizen mistrust.

NO BACKUP MATERIAL
WILL BE PROVIDED
PRIOR TO THE MEETING

Come on now. give us a break. This is the best, best, best, commission ever. Besides, why does the public have a need to know?

They will also lie and try to twist some state law and make a vote outcome illegal.

The city pays a public information officer not to give information (as we never get any), but to REMOVE information from the website! Why are taxpayers footing the bill to fund this position??? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

guess you did not like my logic regarding lowering commercial utility rates to encourage business development. the casino seems to be the 800 lb. elephant on this blog.

We give an FPL rate to to the college. We can do better on commercial rates, no doubt about it. I am just not sure that elec rates is the big deterrent from building in LW. The casino is not that at all and will hold its own once the city charges the tenants for the true cost of maintenance, etc.
