Where's the Internal auditor?

Comment Up

What happened to the highly qualified internal auditor, Robert Marksmeier, that the commission voted on unanimously to hire? Back on March 20, the city commission ranked their top candidates for Internal Auditor based only on the application and resume. Later they narrowed their choices  after interviews. On May 1, there was a public interview and Robert Marksmeier was chosen.

What REALLY happened?

All we know is that Vice Mayor Maxwell was the negotiator and he wouldn't budge over a $98,000 offer. Why not?

Maxwell does not want the truth about our utility to become public knowledge. Maybe the truth would mess up the deal he and his friends are trying to get for FPL and themselves,of course!!! Maxwell drags things out for months, doesn't say a word, and then"Sorry,no deal". WTF?!Maxwell,Amaroso and Triolo ran on the promise of an internal auditer. The bottom line-Maxwell looked into the black hole and saw a very good reason to keep it black.

Lynn, it was my understanding that the Commission authorized a salary ob about $100,000 and Mr. Marksmeir insisted on 20-30% more. During the negotiations, our top candidate took a position with another municipality.

It seems to me that it was another classic coordination screw up between Staff and the Commission.
The Staff got candidates without a salary range and then the Commission selected top candidates before telling Staff what their Budget requirements were.
Or do you understand the sequence to have been different?

Lynn, if you have any shred of evidence that Maxwell or any other commissioner has some deal or plot cooking to sell the electric utility, we sure would like to see or hear it.

There was a distinct salary range posted on the web site for this position. The range was between around $79,000 up to $119,000+. Can't remember the exact figures. never heard the commission giving any $100,000 cap on this IA salary. Maxwell was appointed to negotiate. He should know what happened. As far as I know, Marksmeier is still working for Miami/Dade. He withdrew his application here after negotiations came to a complete stall for 2 months.

Scott MAxwell has turned out to be about the biggest disappointment this city has ever experienced. Bad news along with the mayor.

Oh! for God's sake. The former C.M.
took a $50,000 dollar position and turned it into a department. She loved departments. If the applicant wanted more dollars than the R.F.P.
called for let's just blame a Commissioner. I who like to know when we started letting a Commissioner negotiate a contract.
Why bother having a C.M. and C.A..

That's just the point anonymous above. Maxwell offered him well under the limit of the salary max and refused to negotiate.
