Our Lake Worth Beach Pool

Lake Worth Beach takes steps to resurrect municipal pool

Staff to determine cost to replace pool that closed in 2016

The city of Lake Worth Beach is taking steps to resurrect the Lake Worth Municipal Swimming Pool.

City commissioners on Tuesday voted 4-1, McVoy dissenting, to come up with all the particulars. He wanted a more interesting design that would attract all our residents as well as tourists. The cost was also a factor with the Vice Mayor. We have no idea what this will cost or how we will pay for it but the price tag of $16 million has been thrown around.

"It's probably the best real estate probably in Palm Beach County, so we are fully intent on bringing it back and making it really special," Commissioner Reinaldo Diaz said.

No one seems to want an Olympic Pool these days. Even Wes Blackman doesn't want a pool at the beach which is actually the best place for a pool.

Our old pool--

SUMMARY:
CPZ Architects, Inc. and Chris Zimmerman President and AIA was selected on October 12, 2017 to provide professional services for the Lake Worth Beach Complex Design Phase for replacement of the pool at the Beach Complex. The City Commission will engage in further discussion of the programs and the proposed conceptual design.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION:

Possible design options were presented by CPZ Architects, Inc. at the August 7, 2018 commission meeting. At the July 5, 2022 commission meeting, Task Order No. 3 was approved for the preparation of a final conceptual design of the pool area only for the City to review and approve the scope of the project after a full-day meeting with the City Commission. A After reviewing CPZ’s notes from their one-on-one discussions with the Mayor and Commissioners, staff was able to determine the common concepts, programs/activities, and elements of the pool features. They are as follows:

Programs/Activities:

What's strange to me is, how do you pass something and then figure out what it will cost later? They must have stolen this concept from the Biden government.

Sadly, I think the pool will be a flop. Who can afford to pay for parking and use the pool? How many people have Lake Worth parking passes? The pool will cost more to operate than the 10 people using it will be paying. Sorry, that's just my prediction.

I think if they go ahead with this, it will become a White Elephant very quickly. It's the most absurd thing that LW has ever proposed, and there have been some pretty absurd things.

It would have to be free, because the only people who will come to it won't have any money.

What is in their heads?

Big cities have recreation centers, that include swimming pools. They have one in every neighborhood. Lake Worth is not a big city.

Why can't we just get a pool like we had before? What is the problem?

The problem is city streets, empty store fronts, homeless people everywhere. These factors prevent LW from growing. Trying to not be Delray is keeping Lake Worth a slum.

City needs to welcome businesses. Get those stores open. Get those restaurants open. Commercial utility rates are threw the roof, and they were just raised again People will not be vying to move to LW.

@7:47...unfortunately the city has no control over rental rates. Look to the landlords for that.
There are many businesses that I miss that we used to have downtown.

If nobody wants to move to lake Worth why do they keep building all these apartments how do people pay for the utilities in lake Worth when they keep going up rents are already 1500 1600 per month I can't understand how people can afford it

No but I do believe that I think they should sell the electric they had an offer a while back few years ago that wanted to buy it and dismantle the thing all they wanted was the customer base but again we keep raising the rates nobody can afford but we keep building apartments though and a tiny City they can't fix anything that keeps getting bonds to fix the roads we'll get a bond to do this we'll get a bond to do that lake Worth Beach is going in debt quicker than anything

@6:56...who made the offer to buy our Utility? Can't remember that.

Lynn, you are right about the Peter's having empty businesses. They shouldn't be allowed to do that. But the businesses that are there are closing. Cana is closed. City took forever for permitting. El Diablo is closed now too. CWS??

The apartments must be getting subsidized housing. Because who can afford $2500 for a small 2 bedroom?

So, until we become a thriving city, we should not talk about spending this much money for something not everyone will be enjoying.

Lake Avenue is for locals. Only locals will every make it here. That's fine, but why do these big places think they can make a go of it?

Yes, I think we should sell the electric company to FPL.

Lynn Anderson said...

@6:48...FPL does not want to buy our electric utility. It is not built to standard.

Not Surprising. Nothing in LW is standard.

Long and short of all this... the entire commission needs to go! Leftist policies will destroy the rest of Lake Worth. Lord knows they are trying.
