The Selling off of America

Comment Up

OMG, for a second I thought the writer was talking about John Prince Park.

A massive land grab is in the works. State governments and industry are fighting for control of our public lands, and hundreds of millions of acres of critically important wildlife habitat could be at stake.

Special interest lobbyists are pushing elected officials to transfer our national public lands to the states, which could turn around and auction them off to the highest bidder for profit. This radical notion could soon become reality. Multiple bills in Congress would cede ownership or management of federal lands to Western states.

Tell your members of Congress: Hands off my lands!

Transferring public lands to states would jeopardize essential wildlife habitat and the species that live there. It could shut you out from the places where you love to hike, camp and enjoy wildlife.

Ultimately, these efforts sell out the American people by giving away our most cherished wildlife refuges, forests and other public lands for the short-term profits of a few drillers, miners, developers and other special interests.

Help keep public lands in public hands!

I emailed my support to stop taking our land. I hope many other do so to prevent the concrete jungles that are springing up everywhere. We need this land for plant life and wildlife. The plants purify our air we breathe and the animals need their habitats. We have already taken enough away from both.

I've heard that Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge is in danger of being scooped up by SFWMD. According to whatever agency is in charge (don't remember off hand) USFW is not doing a good enough job of eradicating invasive plants in the Refuge and if things don't change the Refuge will be turned over to SFWMD which could open 97% of the refuge lands to hunting or development . Not hard to imagine them salivating and looking for any excuse. I don't recall all the facts; double-check the latest issue of the Everglades Kite which is the newsletter of our local Audubon Society-Everglades chapter. Join up! There are wonderful events and great people and you will be helping to save our lands.
