Ask any citizen with any amount of reasonable intelligence about "corruption." They know the difference in what's right, what's wrong and what is unethical.
Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell was convicted in two lower courts of public services fraud and faced two years in federal prison. His case went all the way to the United States Supreme court. Justices expressed concern about federal corruption laws that could criminalize what they variously called “routine” or “everyday” actions that politicians perform for campaign contributors or supporters who have provided them with gifts. And there lies the rub. Routine political favors are commonplace, more so than ever. Every politician engages in them...a dinner, a vacation, gifts. Supreme Court Justice Breyer said that the word "influence" was too broad. The Court had a problem with interpreting the word.
Politicians should know that ingratiation and access is corrupt. Common sense should apply. Perhaps today Mary McCarty would not be charged for honest services fraud--free resort stays from a company she helped win a contract to build a convention center hotel. Even if the Supreme Court is having trouble with "ethics," we the people can well understand it. Frankly, we are sick of it.

Thanks Lynn you are so right about all of this, and it is worse than ever now. Not to mention as well, doctors and pharmaceutical companies do the same thing, take dinners, trips, vacations, gifts, perks for giving all these big pharma drugs to their patients. It is horrible. Our society has gone to hell. The greed and corruption is the worst today. I have no respect for our government, FDA, law enforcement, big business, and politicians, this is all so unethical, but reality today, out of control, and so unethical.

WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN ORDER TO FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION (SO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE U.S. STATES) SHOULD THEN READ SHALL RELY ON THE PAY TO PLAY MONEY TO ELECT OUR ELECTED OFFICIAL. THE PEOPLE WITH NO MONEY SHALL HAVE NO SAY. CORPORATE AMERICA RUNS OUR GOVERNMENT AND UNTIL WE CAN STOP THE CORRUPTION IT WILL ALWAYS BE THAT WAY. WHY DO YOU THINK THE PEOPLE GIVE UP ON VOTING? THEY KNOW THEIR VOTE DOES NOT COUNT ANYMORE.
