None of the above ever fail to bring only one side of the argument--ever! In fact, discussion or a different view is taboo...it's the same old rap, the same old tune. McVoy and Maier can express an intelligent thought and it is rebuked, criticized, screamed at by Maxwell with eyes rolling, his glare or vote. Never has there been a more unpleasant and rude bunch of people.
On Tuesday, we only had four commissioners in attendance--the mayor had another engagement. Now our local "news" editor is ticked off because Tuesday night, because his buddies on the commission did not pass the Land Development Regulations on the Second Reading and his Editorial stated that this is "dangerous" and that elected officials "often don't care what the cost is to the taxpayer or this municipality." McVoy and Maier are the only elected officials who DO care.
This all started with the upzoning of the Gulfstream Hotel when this majority commission went against the vote of the people by IGNORING it. This majority approved of Hudson Holdings building 20 feet higher than the Charter Amendment allows and changing a residential zoning to commercial all for a developer. Because of that arrogance, we are now in a law suit. So I ask you, who is making decisions that have cost the taxpayer of Lake Worth? Do you really want to compare a $200 advertisement in the Lake Worth Herald to a law suit that usually gets dragged out by Lake Worth.
On April 5, 2016, the First Reading of Ordinance 2016-13 passed on a 3/1 vote with McVoy dissenting. Maier was absent. Commissioner McVoy asked that it come back as a Workshop for discussion. This Trio already had all the answers they needed regarding all the various changes in our LDR's. Commissioner McVoy's request was denied and totally ignored and this overbearing attitude from Maxwell and the rest of the Trio cost them this time--another public notice must be advertised and meeting set.
Our local editor says that it is "political games like this that chip away at taxpayer money and breed animosity in the community." You bet that political games breed contempt and there is plenty in this community even if the election results don't reflect it.
So you tell me, why would Commissioners McVoy and Maier vote on something that they believe is not in the best interest of the city especially when 56% of the voters said they wanted 45 feet in the area of the Gulfstream Hotel? Why would they vote on something that they feel shouldn't be rushed through but requires more discussion and explanation of the proposed changes to our Land Development Regulations? Isn't that their job to represent the people?

Great graphic.Mayor Pam Triolo, Commissioner Scott Maxwell and Andy Amoroso are not fixing what needs to be fixed first in this town. There was no plan "B" for the 20/20 cash grab.It's been how many years? These people threw a tantrum when they didn't get their 800,000 blank checks and a huge slush fund for their comrades.No checks for us-no pot holes fixed for you little dumb ass peons. They really are like gangsters holding us all hostage.But playing with guns can be dangerous,and this gang just shot themselves in the foot.
is it true that there is a sober home HQ going onto lucerne ave?? the owners are new so i give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to lake worths issues and problems but i think the real estate agent representing them ( a guy with roots in this town who i won't call out by name) should know better than to actively bring these types of business downtown, he should be a little bit more responsible......shows that all he is after is the money and he doesn't care about what lake worth evokes into....shameful

509 lucerne ave....right in the midst of the revitalized part of Lucerne where CSW, la bonne bouche, social house, and the old south shores is....what a disaster for this city if this is what we are allowing to occur downtown on our main thoroughfare....its almost comical, someone news to answer for this
So if McVoy and Maier had done their job and seconded Amoroso's motion, they could have voted on it and it would have passed... 3-1 or 4-0... But because they didn't second the motion the entire update to the LDRs died... And now city staff will have to recreate their work... And we just pay and pay. Too bad they just didn't second the motion and move on.
McVoy and Maier DID do their job.
It is this bandit trio that should listen and discuss important issues, not rubber stamp everything that comes in front of them by staff. Maxwell is the biggest offender.
City staff has to "recreate their work?" Same work. It will be brought back when the 3 to 2 is in place.
I am proud of the minority taking a stand for principle.

When you are in the minority and you know that the majority will pass a new law you can object and explain why it's bad but that's all you can do. To refuse to second this motion when you know it's going to pass in a few weeks anyway is just dumb. If you are smart and in the minority, you use times like this to build bridges so that you can show the majority you are willing to work with them if they will try and work with you in the future. We have two more years with this majority and politics is all about compromise. So if the majority is going to win on this issue why not let them and use it to your advantage. McVoy and Maier lost my respect on this one and cost taxpayers money for no reason.

Politics is NOT about compromise here. Where did you get that idea? This Trio's mantra is, my way or the highway. They have never been receptive to an alternate point of view. EVER.
As said, this Trio cost the taxpayers a law suit.
why does everything have to pass the first time, bringing it back gives the PUBLIC more time to study and come and ask questions or provide comments. Shouldn't local government be more concerned with engaging with the PUBLIC, those that pay taxes and pay for city government.
You and your comrades are the ones costing the taxpayers big money. Who filed yet another frivolous lawsuit because they didn't get their way, the city or your frivolous friends? How many of these frivolous lawsuits have you actually won? Don't get your way? Sue, it's the weaklings way. Still super upset about losing the last election? Goodness what are you going to do next year when the only 2 commissioners that care about the residents lose too? Will you all move? I guess if you don't pay any taxes to the city you wouldn't care about having to shell out taxpayer money to defend yet another frivolous lawsuit.

Legal fees are tremendous in this city because of lousy decisions. If they don't do right by the employees, there might be one there as well.
The people, understandably, don't have deep pockets like this city when it comes to defending what's right. But some people step up to the plate and actually spend their own money when something is so egregious in order to defend what is right.
It's too bad that we have rogue commissioners and bullies on the dais along with their vocal supporters.
To 3:54 - We aren't sore about losing the election. We are proud that we ran an HONEST campaign, unlike the trio. We all know it was a SCRATCH BACK ELECTION from the beginning.
Developers: I'll scratch you back and support you in the election. Then you will scratch my back when I want to develop in your districts.

We are EVEN more proud of them that they stepped up to the plate and prevented the Trio from getting in UNOPPOSED.
Yup. Let's see how long it takes Hudson Holdings to want to grab our beach again. They did invest a lot of money in HIT pieces, dishonest ones at that.
