West Palm Beach and Lake Worth - some similarities

Comment Up

"The Florida Elections Commission has told City Commissioner Keith James it’s found 'one or more legally sufficient allegations' that James broke two campaign-finance laws when, after he was reelected without opposition, he gave $500 from his campaign fund to the campaign of Shanon Materio. Materio later returned the money," so says the Palm beach Post in today's paper. Lake Worth usually has one complaint an election.

Just like Lake Worth, there is always stuff going on in West Palm Beach. Now they want to triple the fire assessment thus raising $5 million in an expected budget shortfall of $8.4 million.  Most of their projected rise in costs is for police and fire to the tune of $4.9 million. They had to dip into reserves last year taking $2.3 million just to balance the budget.

West Palm Beach is having the same difficulties as Lake Worth in attracting quality personnel.  Good employees are leaving and finding better paying jobs.

employees complain they're not making enough money and in fact they are breaking cities right and left. What can be done about it? Just keep stiffing the taxpayer?

If I were looking for a City Job, I would leave Lake Worth for West Palm any day of the week. Sick of all the negativity in this city.

Explain "negativity."
Does it mean walking around in la la land all day long?
Or is it just pointing out the facts and asking/hoping for solutions from our elected officials--or is it playing silly little games, riding rafts and pretending we don't have any problems?
Which?
Should we not point out what's going on? Or is it just easier to sit in our own little worlds and pretend all is well?
Are you sick of "negativity" or the truth? Tell it to the PBPost and Channel 12.

Lynn with all due respect if you would have watched and listened to the commission meeting on ch.18.Instead of just reading what the post had to write, you would have seen and heard that what the commission did was only to set the maximum limit that the fire assesment could be. It was quite clear to me at least that no one on the dias wanted to triple the rate, including the mayor. But it does look like it may have to be raised at some point.

Yes, I am sure that no elected official wants to raise taxes--it is a killer. We will probably experience the exact same thing in LW as they discuss and set the budget. Don't know though because next Tuesday they set the millage and it is the same as last year.

Lynn @ 2:48 Please do not play naive just read the comment on your blog with the picture of Jamie Brown, your followers are complaining that the trash is being picked up to early, and it sounds like there is a party going on. First off I am sure the shifts start early to beat the heat of the day ( my opinion ) and collecting trash is noisy I have never heard of a padded garbage truck.

As I recall it, someone said that they were shouting early in the morning. They weren't complaining about the trash being noisy.
