Citing record-high numbers of illegal migrants reaching the US-Mexico border, the ex-president likened the influx of people to an “invasion” threatening US security. He went on to argue that Biden had already “surrendered” the US border, and “now the entire planet is intruding across it as though America has been defeated on the field of battle.”

Back in December, the White House froze all payments on student loans until the first of May. At that time, The New York Times issued a report that this choice affected over 41 million borrowers, which included the almost 27 million people who had not made a single payment since March of 2020.

The House Education and Employment Committee overwhelmingly passed the “ Parental Rights in Education Bill,” also known as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, banning teachers from discussing LGBTQ-related issues with primary level students. The legislation is designed to protect the “fundamental rights of parents” to choose what their children are taught.

“A school district may not encourage classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in primary grade levels or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students,” the bill states.

On Friday, Customs and Border Patrol agents seized several containers carrying more than 1,000 fake American driver’s licenses in Indianapolis that had recently been smuggled into the U.S. from Hong Kong.

Another shipment seized last week contained more than 1,200 fraudulent driver’s licenses. The containers were bound for addresses in Chicago and New York. The contents were labeled as “Game Card” with a value of $20.00. The three containers held 358, 482, and 367 fake identifications.

President Biden is putting millions of Americans at risk by allowing known criminals and potential terrorists to fly on U.S. airlines.

“A criminal alien shouldn’t be allowed to board a plane after presenting a warrant for their arrest. They should be detained and brought before a judge.”

At 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 1, the minimum wage in Portland jumped to $19.50 per hour, up from $12.15 the day before, the National Law Review reported.

The hike, which the Wall Street Journal (and anyone else with a lick of sense) called "destructive," was triggered by a city ballot referendum approved by Portland voters in November 2020. The measure will raise the minimum wage in stages to $15 by 2024 and was already going to make the minimum wage $13 on Jan. 1.

17 years later, Neighborhood is still in limbo on Sunset Drive property

We have been going round and round with the City of Lake Worth (now called Lake Worth Beach, a really stupid vote), with 826 Sunset Drive in the ROLO neighborhood.

For a little history: The Pac, Save Our Neighborhood, Inc. collected over 3,000 signatures city wide wanting the single family zoning kept in place. Former Lake Worth city attorney Larry Karns refused to forward the petitions to the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections for verification citing a State Statute that you could not petition on less than 5 acres even though it was he who approved our petition.

A battle in the circuit court then ensued between Save Our Neighborhood, Inc. and the City. Save Our Neighborhood won its case in the circuit court, but the decision was challenged by the City of Lake Worth. Even then the city was going against its citizens, favoring a developer just like it did on the Heights Amendment in recent years.

The Sunset case moved up the judicial ladder into the Appellate court which then overturned the Circuit Court's decision.

In a special meeting held on August 25, 2009, the Lake Worth City Commission voted to repeal two city ordinances that would have allowed MF 20 zoning (20 units per acre) into the single family Lake Osborne Heights neighborhood. The commission consisted of Commissioners Cara Jennings, Commissioner Retha Lowe, Mayor Jeff Clemens, Commissioner Joanne Golden and Commissioner Suzanne Mulvehill.

The undeveloped 4.02 acre property that was the subject of the commission's action reverted to its previous zoning of “County Agricultural” (five units per acre). According to PAPA, the zoning is Single family. Zoning is all political.

We have continually asked the city attorney about the status of this property and have never received an answer other than "what are you worried about--there is no action on the property?"

Apparently the City of Lake Worth did not inform the PAC that was in an unresolved mitigation for years and the property, according to PAPA, sill is owned by Sunset Drive Holdings LLC although a developer is now in the picture.

A County Judge ruled Thursday that drop boxes could not be used to collect absentee ballots under Wisconsin law.

“It’s all good and nice, but there’s no authority to do it,” Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Michael Bohren said after the hearing, NPR reported. Bohren agreed with the plaintiff attorney’s argument that state law only allows two ways for absentee ballots to be returned: by mail or in-person at the local clerk’s office.

When returned in person, only the person who cast the vote may do that, Bohren ruled. Under this order, “ballot harvesting” or events such as “Democracy in the Park,” in which election officials collected absentee ballots at more than 200 city parks in 2020, would be prohibited.

There is nothing worse than a reformed smoker. I quit smoking 38 years ago. I decided then that smoking was not addictive. The only thing addictive about it was grabbing for that cigarette; that was the habit. I quit overnight and never looked back...no gum to chew and all the nonsense they try to sell you like nicotine pouches/ patches.

So, I am in total favor of this legislation. Personally, I can't stand the smell of smoke. People smoke where I live and I love those who put out their butts on our sidewalks for someone else to clean up.

Having tobacco-free parks and beaches would provide families and children healthy environments and allow Florida to fairly compete with smoke-free vacation destinations for tourist dollars. It will be up to the Florida Legislature to consider.
