Wave pool creeps forward

" Jupiter Farms residents did all they could Thursday to wipe out the idea of a surfing ranch in western Palm Beach County, but the plan is still on the drawing board.

Commissioners directed county staff to examine a possible land use change that would allow a firm affiliated with surfing legend Kelly Slater to build a surfing ranch with a 2,000-foot long wave pool at the Palm Beach Park of Commerce, which is located next to Jupiter Farms north of Bee Line Highway."

Sound familiar?

Read about it...

After Herman Robinson spoke on Tuesday night saying that our pool was derelict property, that it was unacceptable and that he wanted work sessions to find out "what we want," I didn't get the impression that he was talking about the people and what they wanted. He even mentioned a parking garage. His campaign promise talked about interlocal partnerships. What in the hell are those?  Partnerships with other governments? We already have one by accepting the $5 million bond money from the county that put a 30 year stipulation (strings) on the deal. And Lake Worth helped pay for that bond.

Many would say that Robinson was put into power to help forward Maxwell's agenda, a commissioner who has always wanted our beach project under its present form to fail. And we can't forget that Robinson received a campaign contribution from Delray New Wave LLC stating that the contribution was from an attorney. Michael Weiner is the registered agent for this corporation with his office right down the block from Hudson Holdings.

Right now we can fix our pool and we have the money to do it. The city manager tells us that the pool is leaking water and has hired an engineer to find out why.  He too has never had faith in our pool and wants our pool to fail. how do we know that it was not damaged during the casino construction? The pool area was used as a staging area for all the heavy equipment.

This Commission sucks! Lake Worth used to have nice neighborhoods and a downtown where you could do more than get drunk. Code no longer even exists in this city. I'm leaving "Panhandler Paradise as soon as I can sell my house ! Good riddance to this corrupt crap hole.

I hope Herman succeeds in finding out how to better utilize the property for us the tax payers. The pool made sense back when it was a salt water pool. It had historic significance. It no longer has any reason to be where it is. The current plan that Maxwell has been against from the beginning, lost a whole bunch of revenue creating parking spots for all the green we now have. The bicycle riding bunch that did that are no longer there and those of us who regularly drive to OUR beach can't park. The businesses that rely on people who drive are also suffering and we don't have enough parking for what we have there now. What will it look like when (if) we get the second floor rented?

Remove the pool and fill the hole with a two tiered parking garage. Increase the number of resident spaces and start making money with the other 100 or so spaces. Build a pool on the mainland where more people can enjoy it. It's about time we elected someone who has a head on his shoulders.

@3:12--We DON'T need a charette. We already know what we want--our pool repaired.
@3:28-We don't need a parking garage and we don't need to spend millions. Businesses are NOT suffering. Where did you hear that bull? when you start to have special events at the beach, expect parking to be scarce. Stupid having those events up there. This is our BEACH.
The pool makes sense right now.
You know we could debate this back and forth but it's a waste of time.

Ya, ok,, let not have the bon fire at the beach let's have it at the golf course or cultural plaza, makes sense. Same goes for the jet ski races, have them on lake Osborne and move the pier to the lake as well. It's our beach!

3:42PM : who is "we"? We, the people who's candidates lost the last elections? Are you sure you know what the people want?

you make no sense anony at 5:20.

@5:22--I don't recall the beach ever being mentioned, discussed or talked about. No candidate is that stupid to take a position like that especially if he is willing to commit $4 to $7 million dollars on an aquatic park. It would have been suicide.

@5:20--Next, talking about special events like car shows and concerts for Spring break...not bonfires on the beach at night. You don't see the parking lot full for that.

I think the water park idea is a complete joke and a waste of taxpayer money! There was no charlottes or even meeting with the public over what they would like. I think it's all a ploy to build another parking garage! Did anyone even look at the monthly cost to put in the water park? 50 THOUSAND a month to pay for employees and supplies and oh I almost forgot--MAINTENANCE! The thing they didn't pay for and how our current pool got into the shape it's in! Look at Lake Lytal pool if you want to see what our pool should look like. Same age! I feel another financial manipulation coming from me and this pack of commissioners! Let's see the road bond first came out several years ago. We voted it down. The wholes in charge of the budget put less and less money into maintaining our roads until the second vote for the bond-which passes as people were pushed into a corner! I HATE the right wing politics!

You were fine until your last sentence. WTF do you mean? It was this democratic city that voted in this bond. It was this commission majority (4 of them) who voted to put it on the ballot--Maier, Amoroso are Democrats. We voted down the original bond by 25 votes. Of course the 2nd bond was going to pass regardless of party affiliation--

I have no idea what will happen at our beach but right now it doesn't look so good to save our pool. And the commission is 3 Democrats to 2 Republicans who probably all will be voting with Maxwell.

Where are all the people clamoring about saving the pool? It's only a handful of people on this blog that don't pay any city taxes anyway. If tax paying residents wanted to save the pool the pool would be saved. Saving a money losing pool because you don't like the commission doesn't make any sense. Sad.

I guess you weren't at the commission meeting when many residents came in to support repairing our pool. You would much prefer putting people down. SAD.
