It's always about Developers and dumb Politicians

Comment Up

Atlantis is a beautiful and quiet community directly across from John Prince Park. As far as homes, it is totally built-out.

According to the agenda on-line, on April 20, the City of Atlantis supported  Resolution 16-08 supporting the Atlanta Braves Spring Training Facility in John Prince Park. They supported 10,000 fans screaming for their team, the Atlanta Braves. They supported a $110 million dollar tab and giving away 100 acres FREE to a billion dollar corporation for private gain. They supported the destruction of our preserve, our county park.

The council comprises the following:  Aaron Rinker, Catherine Higgins, David Kintz, Lauri Melear, Michael LaCoursiere.  Lauri Melear won her election this past March 15 and was the only councilman in Atlantis to vote NAY on the resolution to bring it to John Prince Park...the only one with some sense.

There was lengthy discussion that began in a workshop with a resolution placed on their council agenda two days later. I am sure that the Board of County Commissioners were pushing all local commissions to support this resolution. John Prince Park as the destination was changed to support a "training facility in the southern part of the County."

They did the same thing that Lake Worth did...trying to mitigate any objections from supporters of our park. Four residents spoke out against this with one wanting it.  The mayor, David Kintz, discounted that stating that he had about 15 friends who weren't at the meeting who supported it. Believing that it would be an economic and development boom to Atlantis and South Congress Avenue where they want development, four commissioners voted for it.

It is unbelievable how stupid some elected officials are.

To the "human" who attempted to comment earlier, do you really think I am going to post your anonymous personal attack against a family member? Are you for real? You should have one little ounce of philanthropy and honesty that he has.

FOLLOW the Money!!! Bet there are some commercial intrests at each of their hearts. I sure don't want to live near a baseball park. Much rather have a park and I bet residents want the same thing in Atlantis. That was only the Commissioners and perhaps they are as greedy as LW is. Elected Officials do sometimes put their interests at heart rather than the people who elected them, especially when they think no one is watching.

Same old insider politics. Smoke and mirrors: bring the Braves to South Florida, not mentioning JPP. I personally, and very sadly, imagine they have already made their deal. Hence rewiring the camping ground. It's all insider trading in this county, and the good old boys, and girls, trading favors for backing. My only question: Who is getting the bulk of the $1,000,000 finders fee? This is Scott Maxwell's signature move: taking public property and giving it to very wealthy private interests. I do have a faint glimmer of hope that voters may see through this and not approve their "new and improved" allotment of the 17% increase in tax they expect to see. They don't have money for basic infrastructure now; how are they going to pay an extra $100-200 grand to be the sucker that builds this grand dream stadium for the Braves? Read the Bloomberg article and see just how stupid and fiscally irresponsible this move is.
