The Death Penalty is a penalty that I have changed my mind on throughout the years. Do we have the right to take someone's life no matter how we feel about the crime and the circumstances? Then comes along someone who has committed a hideous act of murder and I say "yes." But I still wonder if we have the right to be in the business of killing our own citizens no matter how despicable they might be. Are my feelings simply that of vengeance?
Per Wikipedia, Florida has executed 92 convicted murderers, all at Florida State Prison, which possesses the state's sole remaining 389 inmates awaiting execution. Forty have appeals pending.
In a legal decision that went before the United States Supreme Court this year, it struck down part of Florida's
death penalty law as unconstitutional. A new law is required.
Now the State of Florida is making it more difficult to impose that sentence. In the past, a judge could impose the sentence on a 7/5 majority jury vote. Now it will take a 10 to 2 vote however judges can still determine the final sentence.
State Senator Jeff Clemens doesn't like the death penalty at all. "In Florida, we've exonerated 25 men who were once wrongly convicted of
death," State Sen. Jeff Clemens, D-Lake Worth, said in an interview with
the AP. "I just think if you're going to kill someone, you'd better be
sure." He voted “no” in the 35-5 Senate vote for the new law. Read the Daily Commercial.
Marshall Shelley, a former pastor said, "As we seek justice, we must do so humbly and without forgetting the
extreme mercy God extended to us and to all sinners saved by grace."

I never thought I would say this, but this time I agree with clemens on this one. The death penalty and abortion are both forms of murder and I do not think humans should decide on the life of another, only God. I wish all politicians would see them both as forms of murder and wrong in a civilized society. Most Latin countries to not approve of them like the USA does. Murder plain and simple. Although I do not care for jeff and think he is as despicable as this trio we have here in LW now, the death penalty needs to end. I pray for that everyday as a Catholic, it is wrong, it is murder. Thanks Lynn for sharing this. God bless the souls taken by abortion and the death penalty in this world.
Thank you for your comment. Just like my politics, I have changed my mind about capital punishment. It took a lifetime.
Vengeance is mine, I will repay says the Lord. I do think that those in prison for murder should not be given the privledges they are given. Food, water and a place to sleep is all they should get. Denying them the rights of the victims they took.
