All sorts of stuff goes on behind closed doors with this city administration (and normally Commissioner Christopher McVoy is kept out of the loop) but RFP's have to be posted by law. That is one thing they can't hide from the public. And some things have to be published in the local newspaper by law.
Even when they do that, unless you subscribe or just happen to run across a legal notice, you would still be in the dark. Nothing of importance is printed in the city's monthly newsletter. It is a waste of paper.
The City of Lake Worth (“City”) is seeking competitive, sealed replies from responsible offerors to commence negotiations regarding offers to manage, maintain, operate, redesign, renovate, expand, equip and/or implement creative ventures at the newly renovated Lake Worth Beach Complex. You would think that there would be some discussion of something as important as and RFP on managing our casino and pool, wouldn't you? The city manager NEVER gives a report and NEVER lets the public know what's going on. The city manager report section of the Agenda should just be removed. And while your'e at it, get rid of the City Attorney's section as well.
On November 4, 2014, the city put out a Public Notice (did anyone know?) of the selection committee meeting that was held in the city's conference room in order to discuss the proposals from the responsive firms to mange our casino and pool. This was a public notice but now no one can find out anything about it per Cristy Goddeau: The meetings and replies are exempt from the Public Records laws
and the Sunshine Law at this time (see section 286.0113(2)(b) and
119.071(1)(b)(2), Florida Statutes).
The Energy Performance Contract with Siemens is coming up at a public meeting AFTER the election. The fact that Hudson Holdings was told that they could build 65 feet at the Gulfstream Hotel with a new addition (if even renovations ever happen) is being kept quiet. And whatever they have in store for us at our city owned beach, will also be AFTER the election. All is strategized here. City government is all political and they will purposely time it so that they have a better chance of screwing around with your assets and/or take your cash.

If all this is being done behind closed doors, and the Commision and CM are trying to keep the city in the dark, obviously there is a leak at City Hall for you to be getting this info. I say fire the BUM.
I say--have city hall be transparent and give us the information that we are entitled to have...not making us search for it on their obscure web site.
So there you go with your "obvious" statement again...from an anonymous poster who is clueless. That's what's scary about our city government and the blind sheep.
I would just like to say that I am really happy to see the city become proactive in getting our beach properly managed. The upstairs space has yet to be rented and we the taxpayers are footing the bill to cover the financial loss at the beach which I believe is costing us over $500,000 a year. We the poor city of Lake Worth have to pay for this loss while all the citizens of the county who pay no taxes to our city get to use and enjoy our beach. We need expert help and we need it asap to get this property paying for itself. That means hiring the right company to get the job done. Our city has no business of being the in the business of running a beach complex when we don't have a pot to piss in. Instead of criticizing the commission for looking for ways to get the property financially stable you bring up how everything is being done behind our backs as if there is some evil motivation behind getting the beach property properly managed. Each day that goes buy with this failed business model costs every one of us that pays Lake Worth taxes more money.
Actually, with your reasoning, Lake Worth has no business even being a city. Is this Scott? Hire someone who can do the job and let the city keep the profits. Thanks.
There are no profits Lynn. But there is a debt each year that we the taxpayers owe of $500,000. If someone can turn that around and save us a half million why would you be against it. The beach project was a failed business model from the start and it continues to cost us money. This may just be the answer.
for the last and final time--
HIRE SOMEONE WHO CAN DO THE JOB. Do not farm out our property for someone else to make the profits.
When you go around believing that you CAN'T do something, you NEVER will.
This type of thing cannot be done well by one person. The city would be better off with hiring a company with many experts on each aspect of running the complex. It's not about making money at this point but it is about stopping the continued half a million loss each year.
Wasn't the $500K a year everyone keeps mentioning is Interest Only payment - because we were too poor to get a loan and self - funded the Casino part, no?
We delayed paying back ourselves the principal on the loan...probably due to all the free lunches the commission takes on taxpayer $$$. :)
FIRE JUAN RUIZ!!! $100,000.00 salary and he does absolutely nothing but prance around in golf shirts eating at Callaros everyday.
