According to Andy Amoroso, Vice Chair of the CRA Board and remembered for his demeaning question at a recent city commission meeting:
"The CRA has accomplished a lot in the last two years.
What has the city accomplished?"
What has the city accomplished?"
said that "City parking impact fees are keeping businesses away from Lake Worth." He is blaming it all on the City. Has anyone bothered to look at the economy lately? Actually, we have a lot of businesses moving into the City.
Perhaps insulting the City gets you results. It certainly is an unorthodox approach when you are biting the hand that you want to bleed. Even if we cut the fee in half again resulting in less money to the City, it might attract businesses, but Landlords also need to lower the rents. The City (and the rest of the taxpayers who are not business owners) can't be the only ones giving something up.
If the CRA, without batting an eye, can easily hand over $500,000 to a multi-billion dollar corporation that didn't even ask for money and those on Andy's CRA Board continue to believe that they made a worthy decision by patting themselves on the back for Publix, then we can certainly lower parking impact fees. Perhaps Andy and the CRA can devise a scheme and pick up the cost for the loss to the City.

But lynn only one fee has been collected, and that was from Rotelli's, and now some of that money is missing from the coffer's. please explain this
2 recent articles in the PB Post highlighted that while many new businesses are opening in eastern/central PB County. Not ONE of the business owners even mentioned Lake Worth as a possible home. NOT ONE.
Where are all the new businesses you are talking about? There's alot more vacant buildings along Dixie and downtown while vacancies in other cities are filling up. Why is that? The property to buy and rent is cheaper in Lake Worth than just about anywhere else in the county? What is holding them back? LW is close to rails, the ports, 95. Where does the problem lie? Impact fees maybe?
The $500k that was "given" to a multi billion dollar corporation like you claim actually went to repair city owned property that was in disrepair and dangerous, what is wrong with that? Do you prefer broken sidewalks filled with weeds?
I agree with the CRA that the new Publix is a significant improvement over the vacant lot that was there before and is a significant investment in the heart of the city, bringing jobs and tax dollars where they are desperately needed. What is wrong with that?
I can't help what you read in the Post or why they leave us out of positive news. Get on Commissioner Mulvehill's Newsletter list. She gives you all that data every month.
As far as the one-half million dollars to Publix, this has been answered over and over again. It was for infrastructure. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH PROPERTY IN DISREPAIR or broken sidewalks.
No one said that there was anything wrong with bringing jobs to Lake Worth. On top of everything else, I have no idea that there is any truth to your allegations. Do you?
To anony above-if you don't see anything wrong with handing over 1/2 mil to Publix, then you need a doctor. This city has way too many dunces. You deserve your tax bill to go sky high.

I have never seen residents get so excited about a grocery store. Does anyone have a life?
Was that property dangerous? It didn't look dangerous( Not 500,000 worth of dangerous)! Was there an underground volcano? Radioactive waste?Anyway, I can't wait for the Publix grand opening. I hope I get a coffee cup or something. That's a big list of new businesses coming to Lake Worth. Can't wait to visit some of them. I still miss Halsey Griffith!
What allegations are you talking about? If someone trips and falls over a broken sidewalk is that a dangerous situation Katie? The sidewalks were all broken up over there. Just another lawsuit against the city waiting to happen. Volcanos or radioactive waste? More fairy tales like all the evil developers taking over the city. Great list of busineeses there. Looks like lots if top quality jobs coming to the city.
And none of you answered the question- why are businesses not moving to Lake Worth?
Yes, the sidewalks were broken from construction. How much do you think sidewalks cost? Also, some of the new businesses are listed above. These moved here, not somewhere else. You even ridicule these businesses. Businesses are moving here.
Just a quick question, how much are the fees to make a parking spot into revenue generating space, ie; retail space, extension of premises etc? I think it should be considered if the property taxes on the spaces are the same as the revenue generating square footage? But I don't know what the fees are to be honest?
