Quote of the Day - Scott Maxwell - Solar in our Landfill

Comment Up
“We have committed to lowering our carbon footprint - which is a major contributor to global warming -with real investments. We are replacing city owned street lights with energy efficient ones. This may be a small step – but if this were done by every city in the Nation, the impact would be substantial.

A major commitment taken by the City is the installation of a photovoltaic solar system at the old landfill. The new system will generate 2 megawatt of electricity and make Lake Worth a leader in the “green” energy field in Florida.”

 ~ Scott Maxwell

Read about it... and the recent Global Warming seminar attended by the three M's--Maxwell, McVoy and Maier.

As one person said to me who is in the know,

"Personally I believe that much of this "green energy" is a huge fraud being perpetrated on the utility consumers.  It shouldn't be difficult to compare the cost of purchasing 2 MWH of power from OUC and the cost of the same from the solar project. Of course we are talking about LW, they will obfuscate the information to support their ideologic perspective. There is no way that solar is comparable in cost, but they will promote the political correctness of the project. They have many other initiatives that should be addressed to the benefit the ratepayers. Short answer it is a waste of money, but a windfall for the people who sold LW a bill of goods."

Jeez, poor Comm. Maxwell just can't win. Even trying to help the city go green, he gets criticized? I'm trying to figure out what Comm. McVoy will find objectionable since it wasn't his idea, I'm sure he will claim solar energy is bad too.

Yeah, I really feel sorry for MAXWELL.
What he did was vote to spend a hell of a lot of money to "go green," money, you know, that green stuff. McVoy voted for it too.

We need to know if it actually will be a savings before we pour $5,000,000 into solar panels to give us 2 megawatts of power...panels that will need to be changed out periodically and will have to be maintained, something we do a piss poor job of. Can YOU answer that question? Any savings? Can this commission answer it? Fin out Scott, before you go into your debate.

Is it really just about money Lynn or is maybe have a clean and livable earth a little more important than how many pieces of little green paper is spent? I think sometimes there's more important things than how much money is spent. And what about the enormous value of Maxwell and McVoy agreeing on something. that's worth Maxwell's weight in gold.

Maxwell is smart enough to play the right odds on climate change. You still have to be able to pay for things and it's not spending money going to seminars in cool places. Fix the pot holes.

A clean and livable Earth is great but please, let's stop growing the national debt to an Ungodly level. I'm surprised at Maxwell actually and I'm surprised that any commissioner would think it's alright to spend money in this fashion going to Key West. We all have to pay for this so money is extremely important.

I like the solar idea on our old landfill site. You are very limited on what you can do in that place. As is is now, we have to maintain it by mowing the acres of grass and weeds. Placing two megs of solar there does send the right message. Not only is that two megs less we have to buy from OUC but two megs of capacity toward our requirements to maintain 120% over peak(?)

I wish we'd be forward thinking enough to go the way Germany did but that would be asking WAY too much. Even though Germany supplies 25% of its energy from renewables. They had to start somewhere.

Thank you Commissioner Scott for thinking beyond the present.

You still, in your political statement for Scott Maxwell, have not said whether it is more cost effective instead of going with OUC. Let's hear about it. But that's right, cost$$$$ doesn't matter as long as we can go green.

The bottom line is this -Is this a good and prudent use of my tax dollars? When all this present Commission does is bitch and whine about how broke we are, then we damn well deserve an answer. When the present Commission tries to blackmail us to the tune of 63 million dollars before they will fix a damn pothole, then we damn well deserve an answer. Scott Maxwell knows the answer to this simple question, right? If he doesn't, then why in the hell does he dare to do this?

Maybe you could get a comment from mr maxwell regarding his whereabouts during the climate change conference. He apparently did not attend two full days of presentation but did find his way to the cocktail party. Thanks for wasting our money you loser.

Will you be posting some comments from Com. McVoy? He is a big proponent of this project. So you will also need to link his support to it.

Comments are on the audio from the last commission meeting. Also, click on the link to the Post article that quotes him @11:52.

I'm not surprised about McVoy supporting this seminar but I am surprised about Maxwell.
