Ryan Hartman running for Lake Worth Commissioner District 1

Comment Up
Ryan Hartman
Candidate for Commissioner District 1

Ryan Hartman is running for City Commissioner for District One in the City of Lake Worth.  He was raised in New Jersey and has traveled extensively throughout the country before settling in Lake Worth in February of 2014.

Ryan attended the Peace Studies Program at Naropa University in Boulder Colorado and quickly became an integral part of the community of Boulder. He ran the Boulder Wellness Center, and was a participant in the conversation and legislation concerning the legalization of medical cannabis. An avid reader, Ryan also volunteered many hours over a seven year span, at Left Hand Books, an independent bookstore in downtown Boulder.

Ryan continues to study how to more effectively approach the changes and problems occurring in our world and find ways to better himself and the planet.

Presently, Ryan is the business manager and a contributing editor at Daily Planet Publishing, as well as the bookkeeper and president of the Palm Beach County Environmental Coalition. Ryan volunteers for various organizations concerning environmental and social justice issues in the tri-county area. He is skilled in conflict resolution and nonviolent communication. Ryan is also an experienced facilitator who has worked as a liaison between groups of different persuasions and opinions.

As Commissioner, Ryan will work for all the people. He will strive to make Lake Worth a model city that people are proud to call home. Desiring a more transparent government was the catalyst for Ryan’s decision to run for office. It is his goal for every person in Lake Worth to be aware of all that goes into each decision made by the Commission; the pros and cons, and the costs, both financial and human.

Ryan understands that in a democracy the people’s voice is the vote and we cannot be fully informed without an honest, open government. He will strive to make Lake Worth more harmonious and attractive without over-development, maintaining a “small town quality” that is more rare every day, especially in South Florida.

Wow, the guy has lived here about a year and wants to run our city. Guys like this who decide to run with no experience scare the hell out of me. They have no idea what they are doing. God Save Lake Worth.

Lynn Anderson said...

He has lived here nearly 2 years in February.

Next, I will not be accepting any personal attacks on any candidates running against incumbents.

Next, no one has had experience when applying to run for a city commission for the first time. So, why condemn a candidate for that? Rene Varela was elected and he had not lived in the city for less than 2 years. Everyone starts somewhere. I would suggest that you wait and see and listen.

Is your hatred of Maxwell so intense, you will support this true anarchist?

Lynn Anderson said...

@9:22...I don't HATE anyone as I have said over and over again. I disagree with Scott Maxwell on several local issues, not national ones.

I am featuring the candidates on this blog so that the public can get a little taste of who they are and what they are about. They will be able to determine and make a judgment after they meet and speak with them just like I will.

Anonymous said...

But you will only post comments favorable to the anarchist.

Lynn Anderson said...

Haven't received any favorable...just your inaccurate and snarky one saying I hate an incumbent. People can always Google. I will evaluate each comment before posting. If you have a question for a candidate, you can always e-mail or call him/her.

This is not a blog to personally attack people for whom we don't even know...my call here. We need to give everyone a fair shot who is running. The NAPC will have their political forum on Jan 6. We will soon find out. If you then want to come here and you have something for which the candidate said that you agree with or disagree with, no problem posting.

How wonderful that this person wants to run for elected office. I say again, my hats off to them all (even the ones I don't like) for running or for serving. It is not an easy thing to put yourself out there, collect all kinds of criticism, too old, too young, too educated, no education, lived here too long, not long enough, too gay, too in favor or the environment, too in favor of developers, etc. People are so petty in this City that they make fun of candidate's hair styles even.

What about things we know now like arrest records? Known associates? Expanding on what is in his announcement like he is connected with the radical group Earth First! ? What are his thoughts on illegal immigration? Open borders? The "1%" ? Anarchy? The Constitution of the United States of America which, should he win, he will have to take an oath to uphold, protect and defend?

When you have someone from the extreme radical left wanting to represent our citizens, it should be made crystal clear where he is coming from so people can make informed decision when they vote.

We have seen photos of him with full beard at protests. Is this cleaned up image part of some transformation? Inquiring minds want to know.

Lynn Anderson said...

11:57am--I will leave all of that to Wes Blackman.

And under our Constitution, people have the right to protest and they still have Freedom of Speech although it is getting fleeting in LW.
I personally don't consider Earth First a "radical" group although it is portrayed as such by moderates who don't ever draw attention to the problems and concerns of the people. Is trying to save our environment radical.

And as far as getting a haircut, so what? I just got mine cut too. :)

Anonymous said...

Too late for you. The deadline to file was awhile ago.

Anonymous said...

Meh, I don't think its a good idea to start attacking candidates appearance. Focus on the issues. We could criticize certain commissioners' weight, certain commissioner's baseball hat fetish, etc.

Interesting that wanting to protect the environment is considered radical.

Anonymous said...

I am a long-time Republican and I will gladly vote for Ryan Hartman over Scott Maxwell or Andy Amoroso, whichever one he is running against. I do not want control of our beachfront given over to a private developer. I was very offended by this, and could not understand why the two sitting commissioners, Maxwell and Amoroso, would not listen to the people on this. It is our beach. It is not to be given away to a developer. I have tried to talk to both of the commissioners and didn't get anywhere. We need representatives who listen to us. This is very basic.

Anonymous said...

2:11, so angry, love it. Go throw another car battery in a lake tough guy.

Anonymous said...

Not attacking his appearance at all. Just the CHANGE in his appearance. Wanting to protect the environment is not radical. Hell, everyone wants to protect the environment. Promoting and carrying out criminal acts (monkeywrenching) is radical. And Earth First! IS a radical group. You need to start scrubbing that site.

Mr. Hartman, thank you for stepping forward and taking up the challenge to run for district one Commissioner.Katie Mcgiveron

Anonymous said...

I am not Hartman. I do not know him. But he has got my vote. Your number is up. WE are ALL wise to you and your corrupt friends. Oh, and get a frickin clue!! Beards are in. And I don't care if this guy threw TEN car batteries in the lake. YOU and your pals tried to give away our beach!!! You are DONE> You are OVER. Your dirty little fingers are getting pried off of City Hall and you are getting kicked to the curb. EFF OFFFFF!!!

Lynn Anderson said...

Well, that's quite a declaration @4:54!
Personally, I do not like any facial hair especially on a politician. Paul Ryan just grew a beard and he looks terrible. Men might think that this is an "in look" but I don't think the majority would agree. Thanks for cutting it off, Ryan. You now look "preppy." :)

Anonymous said...

No way I could vote for this guy and I am surprised at the tone of the anger over Scott Maxwell. I may not like the way he has acted but I'm not going to vote for someone this far left. I cannot see how you Lynn could align yourself with this kind of candidate just because you want Maxwell out. Be careful you just might be getting a new commissioners that will really hurt this city. As to the beach issue, didn't the commission refuse to give HH what they wanted.

Lynn Anderson said...

@6:43--I am NOT aligning myself with any candidate. What the hell is wrong with you? I believe that every candidate should be given a chance before they are totally "creamed" by all you people wanting blood.

I write a blog. People want to see candidates' resumes and what they look like. It's that simple. I have two more to go and hopefully I will get them. If not, cest la vie.

As far as the beach issue, where have you been? The city and commission is biding its time to see how this election turns out. Bornstein said this in a PBPost article that the city was waiting until AFTER the election. So, who do I trust on the HH issue? Certainly not the present majority on the dais.

As far as a new commission, how can the city be hurt any more than it already is?

Anonymous said...

Lynn, how is it u're comfortable with the post at 2:11, but you wouldn't post my comment simply making the connection with Hartman and Eartfirst! ?

Anonymous said...

I can think of many ways the city could be hurt by electing another anarchist to a government position of authority. The least of which is our credibility. We become a joke again. This commission is being slammed for trying to address decades of neglect of our roads, fix design flaws of a failed beach plan, promote the city as one that is not dysfunctional in running its government.

Bornstein never said that HH would get anything after any election. That implication is a flat out lie.

Lynn Anderson said...

We had one self-proclaimed anarchist and I have always said that she really wasn't one. she did look out for the people she served and overall, did a good job for the city other than two decisions that I have spoken about in the past.

Next, the implication is NOT a flat out lie on Bornstein. He said that the city was dysfunctional. I would have to agree with that assessment as you commissioners spend thousands of dollars entertaining yourself in Nashville,Washington and all points everywhere you can justify spending taxpayer money. If another "anarchist" were to be elected, how does that ruin our credibility as your side of politics continues to promote? It's another false narrative. I want to meet the guy before I attack the guy.
http://www.wpbf.com/news/lake-worth-residents-fight-to-keep-private-developers-away-from-casino-property/35049448
the implication is there and HH has not gone away. There is no transparency in this city--NONE.

Back in August this year the CM admitted that the beach plan was in the black and it is you, Vice Mayor Maxwell, who continues to argue otherwise--
Commissioner Maier asked a question of the city manager--"At the end of the last fiscal year [2014], was the [Beach] Fund in the red or in the black? The answer was "in the black." He didn't have the amount at his finger tips. It was mentioned by Laurel Decker who was seated in the chamber. Both she and John Pickett are members of a special two member beach committee appointed by the city manager. The Finance Director concurred. $471,000.

I tend to believe that a newly elected commission is a change we probably need just like the nation.

Love this Blog, Hartman cleans up for an election just like a criminal puts on a suit to sway a jury (why not just be yourself???) and anyone is better than what we have no matter what they stand for? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Comments describing someone sucking someone's D*&K?!!? Oh my, all so informative!

Much Love and Happy Freaking Holidays!! This will be so much fun to see and read during this election cycle!! Bornstein is correct - SOOOOOOO DYSFUNCTIONAL!! Thank you.....just thank you Lynn... Muah!

Lynn Anderson said...

@7:40...I can't wait either. I am sure that all you *&^%$ will be on a feeding frenzy, personally attacking each candidate and drumming up all sorts of stuff. The difference here is that the incumbents all have a record of dysfuntionality.

And why shouldn't someone put on their best face when running for election. Everyone does that. Why is that so unusual. As said, you guys will be looking for anything to attack and what will happen, people will see how unjust and unfair you are and how mean. Hope it all backfires on you and will show the electorate how nasty and corrupt you are.

Lynn Anderson said...

@8:37...don't know what your comment said but if it was attacking a candidate, I said I would not post. The comment to which you refer is a comment attacking the commenters on this blog. No names are mentioned as you all stay anonymous so who is it hurting?

If you want an attack smut blog, visit that other blogger and post your heart away. Thanks much.

Look, nobody is attacking the Mayor's opponents. We don't know anything about them but what they have put out. We do however know quite a lot about this actor. His arrests, his radical activism. Just taking notice of how he has to "clean up" to run for office. Andy didn't have to "clean up", Scott hasn't had to "clean up". Even McVoy is what he is and doesn't have to masquerade as a normal person. The anarchist community is very visibly different and when trying to appeal to the "unknowing" voters, they must "morph" into something they are not. Fool the people, so to speak.

It is a great trick and works well for them.

Lynn Anderson said...

You look! If you are out mowing your grass or even hugging a tree, you dress appropriately. If you are going to church, you dress appropriately. If you are running for office, you do the same.
What is your gripe? It doesn't hold any water other than in your own opinion...far reaching as it is. Do you recall Mary Lindsey when she ran several years back? She even wore little pump shoes. Give me a break. You dress for the occasion.

Anonymous said...

Nice stretch Lynn, but Mary Lindsay dressing wearing nice shoes is a far cry from someone appearing in front of the commission in du-rag, full beard, sloppy clothes and then completely reinventing himself for election time.

I have no issue with dressing nice for the occasion, like as you said for church, but this my friend is a smoke and mirrors transformation! Again dressing for the occasion is legit, changing your entire style is disingenuous at best. Again why not be who you are, dress nice but this transformation speaks to someone's character and to think that the voters will buy into that kind of crap!!!! BE YOURSELF its Lake Worth!!!!

This phrase sounds a whole lot better when Marco Rubio says it in Spanish... At the end of the day, "you can put lipstick on a pig, and it still is a pig".

Ryan Hartman, aka Joseph Parmelee on Facebook, is a self proclaimed anarchist and his veil is lifted for anyone to see the proof and the 'truth' of his previous activities. He can not cover up his criminal record

Anonymous said...

Since this is against Maxwell, Lynn has blinders on.

These Hartman critics on here are desperate!!! They know in their little black hearts that they have been very, very bad. They know that they are liars & that they have schemed to give away our beach forever!!! It is NOT going to happen!! All 3 incumbents are going DOWN!!!! Start Planning your fare-well party NOW Guys!! You are OUTTA HERE!!

Anonymous said...

What do you mean about Mcvoy masquerading around as a normal person. yOU ARE ONE BIG DICK 8:49

Anonymous said...

Don't get your panties in a wad 3:14. The point was that McVoy didn't need to change anything. He ran and has since run as he is. He is a little kooky and I like that about him. You see what you get. That is not the case with Lyin Ryan or in this case "tryin Ryan".

Anonymous said...

If Hartman is the best you got, you are in trouble.

The real radicals are the ones who broke every local law and lots of ethics laws too I am told and let someone build that huge building the Lucerne in the middle of our downtown!!! YOU are the lawbreakers. YOU are the radicals!!! But you are going to be stopped THIS MARCH!!! Pack up!! YOUR TIME IS UP!!!

Anonymous at 3:51 enquiring minds must know, "who" told you? Love those "I was told" well it must be true if you were told! Lol

Anonymous said...

It's "inquiring" anony at 5:59. You must be British.

Anonymous said...

WOW, this certainly seems to have stirred up a hornet's nest! The good thing is people are buzzing about the election. So much better than the gang of 3 waltzing back into developer heaven unopposed. A beard is the problem--REALLY?? Yeah, you're right--that anarchist Abe Lincoln looked the same. You can always tell the troublemakers. And yeah, he was another radical--imagine that, freeing slaves. No respect for private property. Yup, you're right, you can judge by looks. The gang of 3 looks just great behind the dais; while doing their dirty work behind the scenes with Bornstein out of the Sunshine.
Sure sounds to me like having an opponent has really hit a nerve.

Anonymous said...

Hey Anonymous at 8:13, Honest Abe didn't shave his beard or change his look to get elected!! It speaks to character of which this new Mayoral candidate seems to be lacking. Next argument?

Lynn Anderson said...

Since a man's appearance has little to do with his social value, whether to wear a beard or not is a matter of how he feels about the face staring back at him in the mirror. What does this have to do with "character?"

Honest Abe didn't shave his beard but beards were very "in" back then. Beards and facial hair are coming back into style again but still have a long way to go. It is a personal choice. Personally, I don't like beards and most politicians don't have one. Paul Ryan just grew one and I hate it but it's his face.

That somebody with such ethical integrity as Ryan Hartman has come forward as a candidate to work for a more caring and sustainable city is something I am thankful for.
That he has protested against destruction of endangered species habitat and for what little wild spaces remain, and passionately, is a clear indicator to me that he is actually well in tune with both what is going on locally, and how crucial taking action is to preserving our precious environment.
I have heard him publicly speak to the importance and value of all people who call lake worth home, and for the support and defense of some of our most vulnerable, as well as for uplifting and protecting much of what is great about this town, including our beaches.
He is an intelligent and critical thinker, very approachable, very accountable and transparent, and openly engages with the community he already unofficially works hard to better.
I suggest not being distracted be petty mud-slinging of opposing forces.
It's quite clear to me that whatever knee-jerk reaction brings ad hominen attacks over Ryan Hartmans beard or lack thereof is simply a cheap and desperate distraction from a lack of authentic and valid criticisms that could remotely discredit him as the best opportunity to put Lake Worths environment, and residents, furry or not, at the top of the agenda.

I have been a resident of lake worth for over 25 years. Scott has had a good run but after seeing his deplorable attempt at smear campaign I'm going with hartman. He has a real passion for lake worth and all the "radicalleft" comments aside look at his statements look at his credentials wellness centers and community driven, well put together. I'd love the chance to hear him speak in public. He seems a very intelligent young man.
