Easter at the Lake Worth Beach

Comment Up

Easter was a nice afternoon for a drive so we decided to view the mess at our beach. Others must have had the same idea as it was bumper to bumper all the way into the beach and up to the Casino. It was impossible to stop for a shot as horns started to blow. We were not disappointed--it was one heck of a big mess. Not only are we paying $13 million for this beach redevelopment overall, we lose 175 upper level convenient parking spaces. That entire parking lot has been reduced to sand.

Parking was filled at Old Bridge Park. We noticed a lot of people trucking up from the lower level with their coolers and kids, the scene we have been talking about for years ever since Greater Bay came on the scene (another nightmare). Today the consensus from everyone with whom I spoke was--they are not happy. The phrase of the moment was "We will start going to Manalapan where it is free." They didn't want to hear about how beautiful it would be. They wanted the parking to stay up top.

This is not to be. It is about "green" and inconvenience--beauty and inconvenience--a bad parking design at the top and more inconvenience and much, much more $$$$. This, as well as several past commissions, did not listen to the people only to those they wanted to hear or were bending their ear. They couldn't wait to spend the $5 million. Thanks, Commissioners. You could have made the difference.

Just so we don't forget as we proceed

I drove up there days ago and it was a mess. People will be getting madder and madder when they finally know they can't park up there. Taking out this parking is not a smart move.

Wasn't Maxwell against the beach redevelopment? It's not all the commisisoenrs, then, right?

Scott Maxwell has always said that he was against spending one penny over $11 million and that he would never vote to spend one penny more. He said that for years. I agree with him on this.

However, when push came to shove, he voted spending nearly $2 million more anyway with the bulk of the money going to re-design parking lots. Sometimes the bark is worse than the bite.

CAN THE PARKING SITUATION BE CHANGED?

This is going to be beuuuuuuuuuutiful when it is done. Who cares if old people or handicapped have to walk up the hill? Who is the hell freakin cares about that?

As the upper level parking lot has now been removed, they will be building one for 89 cars. It would take millions of dollars to restore it back. It ain't gonna happen.

Lie # 1- they will start going to Manalapan where "it " is free. There is a charge to park at Lantana Beach
Lie #2- You took the time to explain how beautiful the beach would be? I'm sure anything you said was negative.
Lie #3 - "the scene we have been talking about for years". You're the only one that's been talking about the parking and the only one miserable about the parking.
This is just like another one of your dad screwed a peak cock story. A bunch of bull and lies.

#1: I bet you argue with dead people too. The Town of Manalapan includes two land areas: from the Lantana public beach to the South Lake Worth (Boynton) Inlet, and the southern one-third of Hypoluxo Island. I am sure that they are referring to that beach at the Boynton Inlet that is FREE.

#2: There are people who can make up their own minds. They don't need you or me.

#3: The peacock story was a spoof-for fun. Obviously you need to start working on your sense of humor.

#4: If you think this is bull and lies all I can say it takes one to know one. Cheer up. Life is way too short doncha think?

There are plenty of people who think it stupid taking out all of that parking. I am one of them.

and there are lots of people who are happy to see the prime beach front parking gone. it never made sense to me, and I've lived in lw since 1999 that there was so much asphalt on top of the dune. better to use that space for park and rec space rather than parking.

and yes the beach is a big mess now, but it will be beautiful when its done and none of our neighbors or friends have complained about the project.
