Award will be presented tonight at City Hall to 21 students at South Grade Elementary

Comment Up
Twenty-one South Grade Elementary students and Mrs. Tisha Thomas have been invited to accept awards from the Lake Worth City Commission tonight at 6:00 p.m. Their story about Tecún Umán was chosen for display in City Hall during the month of April as it honors the Mayan culture of many Lake Worth citizens.

Tecun Uman was the last ruler and prince of the K’iche’ Maya people, in the highlands of what is now Guatemala. Tecún Umán is considered the most representative of his people for his bravery and dignity because he fought to protect his land and his people. He was declared Guatemala’s official national hero on March 22, 1960 and is commemorated on February 20, on the anniversary of his death.

Umm,REALLY?!? If we were in GUATEMALA this story might be appropriate. However, someone chose to raise these children in a country called AMERICA!!! Teachers should be teaching about AMERICAN history and AMERICAN founding fathers, and AMERICAN heros.Or for something REALLY radical ,how about teaching these little unformed brains about the AMERICAN CONSTITUTION?!? American tax dollars wasted by the teachers union AGAIN!!

Teachers are wasting time on this crap? No wonder kids can't read or write.

This is socialism for you. I would bet anything they are not taught about our founding fathers.

Yes, it does seem strange that they are using taxpayer money to teach stuff like this instead of important things like learning English.
