The band has generated controversy over whether the band's musical style and major-label status constitutes "true punk." {Wikipedia] There is no controversy as far as I am concerned that the touring members of this group ARE punks.
As the lead singer, whoever he was, was performing on stage, he lit a joint that supposedly someone had thrown on the stage. He just so happened to have a match. Around 21:45 into the video you will see him say, "If the president isn't going to say something (about Nazis) then I'm going to say something." And the entire crowd was going bananas.
These are the people influencing our youth.

Green Day plays to an adult crowd, Lynn. They're from a generation that also listened to Weezer, Beastie Boys and Beck...most of the concert attendees were in their 40s and 50s.
Do you yell at kids to get off your lawn or ever tell youngsters how far you used to walk to school?
Sheesh.
As one person said,
I felt like everyone at the concerts was younger than me. I'm 31
Here's another one:
Hey! I went last night, I'm 23 It was AMAZING, I'd been waiting 12 years for it.
The crowd was about 30 on up. All were drinking and smoking dope. Teenagers were there with their parents.
Where's Frank Sinatra? Let's get some decent music and singers who look normal.
