I don't like Obama. Can't stand him. That said, I think what he did is not at all that bad. Yes, he did by-pass congress and I don't like that he did that but let's look at the results.

1st, if congress could come together with some sort of step-by-step process at immigration reform, it would have some type of "hold your nose" provision that Obama would have to veto the whole bill. He can't line item veto provisions he doesn't like.

2nd What he did last night was essentially a line item veto. The items he delineated in the plan sound much like what would eventually reach his desk. With all the special interests left out.

Shoot themselves in the foot? I think the republicans are just about to blow their foot right off. These are sensible partial reforms. Does anyone think it is at all practical to deport everyone here illegally?

You have to start somewhere.

It's NOT and executive order.
It's NOT amnesty.
It DOES require a background check.
It DOES require them to pay taxes.
They MUST apply. It's NOT automatic.
People crossing in the last 5 years AREN'T covered.
People crossing in the future AREN'T covered.

It's not perfect. But no bill coming from congress would be either.

It's against the Constitution, anonymous...think about that. This is one step towards a dictatorship. "You gotta start somewhere?" Yes, this has been a joke for years. We are the only country on earth that can not secure its borders. Whatever Obams says now will change down the road and all 11 to 22 million will be given a pass to citizenship...all these criminals. Just what we need in this country.

Do you know why Boener held up a vote of a bill passed by the Senate regarding immigration?

That is another example of how the Constitution is not being followed. Many Executive orders may not be Constitutional but they've been done for decades by both parties.

If the republicans fail to grasp just how important the Hispanic vote is now and will be more so in the future, they are doomed as a party.

How long would you wait for the Congress to do something sensible like he just did? This will go down in the win column for him.
