STEM At Lake Worth High School

Lake Worth Community High School announces the initial launch of a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM ) In-house Choice Program for the 2011-2012 school year.

STEM is a four-year pre-university course of study and is designed to meet the needs of highly-talented students wishing to pursue a rigorous curriculum with an emphasis on mathematics, science, engineering, medicine, oceanography, physics and chemistry. Entering ninth graders must have successfully completed honors level instruction in Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry. Courses prepare students for college-level instruction and advanced placement testing. Exciting and unique opportunities to explore community and real world problems are provided. All students applying to this program must meet the following eligibility criteria: 3.0 Academic GPA.

As with other In-house Choice Programs, successful student participation can potentially grow the program into full district-wide Choice access for all students in Palm Beach County. In recent years, Lake Worth High School has offered other new programs like Culinary and Drafting and Design In-house, and both have become full Choice programs, now accepting district-wide applications.

Career trends in our region and the country underscore the necessity of programming that prepare our students for foundations in Math, Science and Engineering as they pursue their post-secondary goals in this industry. The new STEM program In-house advances this cause, beginning with students at Lake Worth High School in 2011.
