FPL rates to drop--what about Lake Worth?

SUN SENTINEL ARTICLE

"A bit of relief is on the way for Florida Power & Light customers.

Thanks to lower fuel costs, FPL residential customers' monthly bills will drop by $1.57 -- from $111.12 now to $109.55 -- in January for the first 1,000 kilowatt-hours of energy used, which is slightly less than what the average FPL customer uses.

The Florida Public Service Commission approved FPL's 2009 fuel and purchased power fees today after holding hearings about the issue last month. Customer representatives blasted FPL for its original proposal to increase monthly bills by about $8 a month. Utilities are not allowed to earn a profit on the fuel fee."

What do we pay in Lake Worth?

According to Tom Rutherford, Business Services Manager Lake Worth, we pay the following:

"For the first 1,000 kWh consumed, the base rate is 11.82 cents per kWh, or $118.20 for a full thousand kWh. For all consumption in excess of 1,000 kWh, the charge increases to 13.82 cents per kWh.

Our Fuel Adjustment Charge is called the "Power Cost Adjustment" (PCA). The Power Cost Adjustment fluctuates from month-to-month, as it is a pass-through charge that covers the costs of fuel and purchased power. For example: in November, the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) was $0.03100 per kWh (or $31.00 per thousand kWh). This month, due to falling fuel prices, the PCA is $0.00800 per kWh (or $8.00 per thousand kWh).

If you were to use 1,000 kWh on your December billing statement, your bill would be the base charge of $118.20 + the PCA charge of $8.00 = $126.20 plus taxes/fees."
