Support for 'undocumenteds' a slap to citizens

It is appalling that the city of Lake Worth is spending $350,000 to repair the shuffleboard courts to help support the "undocumented" population that our representatives think need our support more than any other services.

What I find particularly offensive is that for years the commission decided not to fix the shuffleboard courts for the seniors who used the facility. Not only can the seniors not use the shuffleboard courts as often, the city commission believes that spending $350,000 to support an "undocumented" population is the best use of its resources. For years, Lake Worth has approached the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County to open a facility but could not provide land or money to the organization. But now the officials who can't find money to support the city's seniors or youth magically have the money to support an "undocumented" population?

Just two months ago, the city did not have a solid plan to pay for the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office, which has taken over the city's police force. The code compliance department cannot keep up with the many rental properties that are in disrepair and being used by the large "undocumented" population. Now the city is proposing to use resources to help those who are taking away services from the city's legal residents?

If there are others in Lake Worth who feel just as frustrated, I urge you to stop voting for commissioners such as Cara Jennings who support the day-labor center. Call our representatives, send e-mails, speak out at commission meetings and let your voice be heard.
