Potholes in Lake Worth- Commissioner Scott Maxwell blames residents on potholes

Comment Up
BEFORE:

AFTER:

Does anyone want to guess where this is located?

Once again, Scott Maxwell is blaming the potholes on the residents who turned down the general obligation bond he was pushing in the amount of $63.5 million over 34 years that would have ended up costing the taxpayers $131 million. He never mentions the real cost and never was forthright with the voters on bond details. He also ignores the huge amount of taxpayer money used to convince the voters ($50,000) on the general obligation bond in comparison to those who supported a referendum. He never tells you about the $3.2 million with each commissioner getting $800,000 of that bond money nor does he tell you about all the millions he was going to grab for the Park of Commerce. Now he says workers will be laid off.

How Scott Maxwell answered the Palm Beach Post question on Potholes:

The city offered a comprehensive roads and infrastructure bond referendum to the voters in 2014 and lost by 24 votes. [It was 25 votes] There is no pot of money available to address our pothole issues in our city. The best way to address the potholes is to replace the failing roads as required. Absent the proper funding to do so, we will need to find opportunities within our budget going forward of 1% across the board departmental cuts to help roughly double the annual funding for pothole maintenance. Scott Maxwell

His opponent, Ryan Hartman answered the question as follows:

Potholes are a huge problem and immediate action is needed. In the short term we should take the funds allocated from the capital fund for the Park of Commerce and redirect them for residential street repair (POC grant matches come from the electric and water funds). A smaller, transparent bond for our neighborhood streets, sidewalks and parks should be discussed and grants pursued for walkable, bikeable streets. We need traffic calming to get heavy vehicles off residential streets. Ryan Hartman

Thompson's article today was atrocious. Can someone put him on the city's payroll?

The pot of money is called taxes
and this is meat & potatoes of YOUR
job - NOT the POC - it's DIRT not People!

does ryan even own a car? why would potholes be an issue for him?

Anonymous said...

So now they are talking about firing's to pay to fix the roads? Is it just me or does it seems like our employees are continually getting the shaft?

Where is the pothole located? Naw, it wouldn't be in front of MAxwell's house.

@9:05--
Ryan Hartman has always said that being an elected official is not about what he wants or what his needs might be--it's NOT about him...it's about the city and the people. So to continue with your snide remarks don't cut it.

Weetha is RIGHT! The "pot of money " is our TAXES!!! Scott Maxwell has pissed away our taxes on the POC,special elections, propaganda sent to the people labeled "education about the cash grab bond, fees to the attorney for working on destroying John Prince Park with a baseball stadium, unnecessary trips, free grub for himself and dept heads, etc. The list goes on!
Maxwell has a lot of nerve blaming the citizens. We've been screaming at him to fix our roads. And Scott KNOWS what the people want-our streets fixed! He's been riding around in his golf cart and I hope he's getting an ear full! Scott Maxwell could care less. He's still mad that we stupid tax payers said NO to his 800,000 blank check! We deserve better than YOU,Maxwell !

Yes you deserve better than Maxwell. So go out and campaign for then vote for an unemployed, unemployable cop hating anarchist. Because that would be sooooo much better than Maxwell.

The trio care about nothing but their precious park of commerce and their re-election.. Recently Pam sent a letter to the residents of Palm Beach Mobile Home Park accusing one side of spreading lies and half-truths, telling us whatever it takes to make us afraid. Stating this is wrong. We reached out to the person's running for mayor and Diane Jacques was the first to respond. We also talked to Gary later. Who do you think she is bad mouthing. Well "Trio" you are the ones spreading lies and half-truths. Do you really think the residents of this city care about the Park of Commerce and that the Pot holes, zoning changes and trash pick up don't matter. Think again. To build a city you need the roads need to be paved. By the way it is also a "safety" issue as people are constantly having to steer around these holes and into oncoming lanes. DUH!

Yeah, here we go again with 11:08 and flinging more bird chit and fear mongering about "anarchy" "cop hating" etc. More chitty chitty bang bang with no facts just more fabrications. And why again wasn't the $800,000 in bond money for each commissioner considered a bribe?? Or illegal use of public money?? Want a new house for yourself?? Why just push through a bond and fund it with public money. What a crock of crooks if you ask me.

Are you trying to say the potholes in those photos are the same? What a b.s. fraud this site is.

Lynn Anderson said...

They ARE the same, anonymous @12:34. The only "fraud" going on in this city is by you and your friends with the lies and BS. I don't like people calling me a liar...That's what the mayor and Maxwell like to do with anyone who disagrees with them. Not too cool.

Lynn Anderson said...

To the person who attempted to post at 12:33 attacking Ryan, I cannot find what you claim on his Facebook page or web site. Do you have a screenshot?
As said, I am not posting lies here.

So, Ryan shouldn't be elected because (you assume) he doesn't have a car. If anything, that makes me want to vote for him more. The potholes don't effect him one bit and yet he wants to make them a priority? Sounds like someone who cares what the people in Lake Worth want more than he cares about how fat his pockets can get with developer money.

And anon 11:08; do you think before you write stuff? Do you bother to do any research? Unemployed? Where does that come from? Can you show proof of that? I bet you can't. You know why? Cause he has a job; in fact, he has multiple jobs. At least use facts instead of assuming the people who read this blog are as dumb as you

Who in their right mind would have voted for LW2020. City couldn't tell us how much it would cost and we were putting our homes at risk as homestead would not protect against a debt service payment for this bond.

Of course reasonable people voted against it and the business community thought it was a terrible idea. But keep talking up the 25 votes and keep cry babying about the POC and doing nothing for residents. Said another way, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Our streets aren't the only thing with holes in them. Maxwell has a hole in his head if he thinks the voters are fool enough to let him and his cohorts run away with thirty three million bucks over the price of road repairs. They can't find their butts with both hands, no less manage money.

Feb 29 @9:05 am potholes are even a bigger issue for those NOT in cars. Try thinking for a change.

Lynn Anderson said...

As an aside, there was only one person who guessed where this pothole was...Gary Antieau.

Anonymous said...

Maxwell is the biggest cry baby ever. Instead of being a leader on this issue he blames voters, who were smart enough to vote against this bond, and won't propose any other solutions for our infrastructure. Any infrastructure money that comes in goes directly to his pet project the POC and screw the residents.

OMG. I can't believe it. I just went down D Street and at least 40 potholes have been filled. OH YEH, It's election time. You still won't get my vote. This is just a ploy to appease us. ARE YOU STUPID BECAUSE WE AREN'T. But Thanks anyway.
