Amoroso and McAlonan on the Gulfstream Hotel and Casino

The Palm Beach Post asked the two candidates this--

Should the city continue seeking new uses for the Gulfstream Hotel and the Lake Worth Casino, two projects that have divided the city?

NO.
The city needs to resolve the construction issues at the Casino Building without further delay so that the second floor space can be leased. It would cure any financial shortfall at the Casino Building. I think we all can agree that having the Gulfstream Hotel open again would be an enormous step forward for our city. I am hopeful that renovations will actually take place and very soon at the Gulfstream Hotel.

These are two different projects. One is city-owned and the other one is not.

Since it sounds like Andy wants to explore new uses for the Casino, I take that as a real warning. Run away from him as a candidate ASAP if you want to keep our public beach!! If he is saying that now, Lord only knows what they have planned for after the election.

What "new" use would Amoroso like to see for the Gulfstream? It's a friggin hotel!
A tire factory??? Amoroso sat on his hat for the past 4.5 years and did nothing to correct the situation at the casino bldg.NOTHING ! Our city has never looked worse and yet the low trio wants us to believe that they are well on their way to fixing this mess ???? Jesus,we're not that dumb!

Andy and the entire commission have been embroiled in lawsuits over the construction deficiencies at the Casino. Tomorrow nights commission meeting will hopefullyy finally find them in default of some of the design and construction issues - and the necessary repairs can take place.

The Casino and the entire beach are and will
forever remain PUBLIC PROPERTY and the Gulfstream is and will likely remain forever PRIVATE PROPERYY. These are two distinct issues.

Technically, a new use at the Casino would be putting a tenant upstairs where the space remains not-so-ready to build out due to the deficiencies addressed inthe friggen lawsuit.anyone would be a fool to take that space in its current situation until shell of the space is weather tight.

And a new use for the Gulfstream Hotel would not be re-utilizing it as a metamorphosis of its once grand dame status... A new use of it would be as a sober hotel for the rich and infamous.- is that what you people really want?

I'm voting for Andy because he HAS worked harder than any other commissioner on the dais.

I don't have the time to keep answering political comments. And truthfully, I don't encourage your sides' on this blog. The incumbents have nearly $60,000 to spend for democracy and getting their word out. There is another blog that loves this stuff.

You, twist stuff around. A NEW use is not renting the upstairs space. That has been the goal since inception. Don't give me that. Up until four months ago or so, Andy was still suggesting renting the upstairs space. Even when the ITN was over he was saying it and suggested that we hire a Realtor to find a tenant. Then the mayor came out at a meeting and said, well gee, we can't rent the upstairs space because it is in litigation. That one came out of thin air and surprised everyone. What a bunch of hooie. As "finding them (Morganti, REG and The Ins. company of the State of Pennsylvania) in DEFAULT, it will be the city's OPINION that they are in default. It's always too bad when we have a city that never can maintain anything.

The city likes to tell us it is someone else's fault. The commission likes to tell the people it is their fault. it is our fault that there are potholes.

Yes, as far as the Gulfstream Hotel goes, they don't have to use it as a hotel. In fact, the new building could very well be used for some other use. It will not be attached; it will be a different design; it will be a different color; it is set-back from the icon historic hotel. It can and probably will stand alone for some other use. IMO. But maybe a sober home will move next door to you. :)

If litigation was a reason for doing NOTHING to correct the situation at the casino for almost 5 YEARS then what the hell was the ITN?
I'm sure that the city manager/city attorney told Mayor Pam triolo what to say as she was stuffing her face before the commission meeting . You know, those OUT OF THE SUNSHINE meetings frequently held with Amoroso,Maxwell and Triolo grubbing and getting their marching orders for the commission meeting to follow.

They have said that they want to sell it to Hilton hotel chain. Is that not flipping the property 7:45?

i think HH will flip in whole or in part. I also think that the historic structure will be "accidentally" damaged beyond repair and oops we have to demolish. HH has accidentally demo'd historic properties in Delray and its happened here in the City before as well, where those ugly townhomes are south of 2nd Ave. So.

Anon 8:54 it is common in the hotel business for a property owner to partner thru a contractural obligation to 'brand' the property into the chain of name brand hotels... What today is a Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa used to be the former Ritz Carlton Oalm Beach - ritzy as ever but under a new name and brand affiliation. Branding brings name recognition, loyalty reward programs with other 'brand' properties, helps deliver a widely recognized hotel product, drive revenue as it attracts new customers who recognize the 'brand'.it would be great for HH to be affiliated with a Hilton or other nice hospitality partner. I can't wait for them to reopen, I'm gonna book as soon as I can for a 'stay-cation' weekend, my neighbor had her daughter's wedding there about 15 years ago and she said it was grand.

Anon at 2:40- You're so excited ! You CAN'T WAIT !!! Look,idiot,we've been WAITING over 2 years for the conn men to remodel what they said would be completely done in 14 months. Including that fantastic,imaginary roof top pool they told everyone about !
