I received a comment last night that said "Stop the insanity." This reader was upset that their trio of Maxwell, Triolo and Amoroso was taking some sort of blame for what happened to the seniors at Palm Beach Mobile Home Park.
"Lynn, PLEASE address the fact that the ordinance was approved by a PREVIOUS Commission. At least be forthright in acknowledging this fact. How in your mind, is this somehow an "evil 3" enactment?? Stop the Insanity, please....."City Manager Bornstein was told by staff that a resolution was passed in 2009 that rated certain establishments as "commercial" for garbage pick-up purposes. The mobile home owners were not aware of any change in their status as curbside pick-ups were done from the beginning when this land was plotted out for mobile home lots and that service continues. Some of the residents have been there, like its president, for over 30 years with garbage pick-up in front of their home.
What came as the surprise was when the park was notified just a few weeks ago that garbage would be handled differently than it had from inception. Little explanation and certainly zero sympathy was given to the mobile home owners.
I believe, and its only an assumption, that this all came to light when the City of Lake Worth contracted with Waste Management for Roll-Off services for commercial and residential properties back in August 2015. This Trio commission was getting ready for the Park of Commerce that was in the process of design, etc. and realized then that their big garbage trucks were looming down these narrow roads. Through discussions, the mobile home park's garbage designation was mentioned and that it had changed in 2009 to a commercial service and rate.
And don't forget, in January Waste Management gave Scott Maxwell a campaign contribution of $1,000.
Prior to that, in June 2015, the commission voted for Eminent Domain at the Park of Commerce. Eminent Domain, something Trump says is a wonderful thing, is used for the public good such as for government buildings and other facilities, public utilities, highways, and railroads. It is not used for the benefit of private developers. This trio of commissioners, Maxwell, Triolo and Amoroso voted for Eminent Domain at the Park of Commerce.
It is no wonder that the residents there feel like they have been treated like second class citizens. Garbage pick-up classification and their zoning are two different things. The first (garbage classification) took place in 2009 which was by Resolution and did not have to be publicly noticed. The other (land-use zoning) occurred in August 2013 under this commission and public notice was required.
Author Joyce Meyer said, "Don't just let the devil use your mind as a garbage dump." A lot of people come over here trying to do just that. There is NO insanity, just people who want to be treated right.

Thanks, Lynn, for that clarification. Where was this land use zoning publicly noticed? I don't remember seeing anything. And why then were the people who live here not notified? This just feels very unethical to me that where you live could be rezoned as not residential without residents even being made aware of the change. Since this is all being done for private development---are any of our homes safe from a similar fate?
Waste Management handles our recycle, not our garbage. So what's your point? Are they not picking up at the curb either and is it all of a sudden?
Can you address the disparity in the amount that each unit pays to have their garbage picked up as compared to what all other residents pay as well as other trailer park occupants?

Other trailer parks have a centrally located dumpster for tenants to throw their garbage in.

I live in a mobile park in Riviera Beach and we get our garbage picked up in front of our home.
I would assume the property owner had to be notified of land use change but perhaps residents don't? While that doesn't seem fair I can see that happening. Lynn, I wish you would also look at the zoning change along the railroad tracks which is not imposing zoning changes on businesses that have been located in that area for 20+ years. No notice to the property owners there either. Is the City just posting these zoning changes in the LW Herald (which has very few readers), are they not required to contact property owners?
. Since the trio says zoning change took place in ?2009 when they were not in office and since they really want to help their seniors?, they should vote at the next meeting to return zoning to residential and show their support.
I thought the City Manager, who is responsible for the day to day operations of the city, said they could continue to have it picked up in front of their home. They would have to pay what you and I have to pay. Apparently that is asking too much. How much do they pay in Canada?

Sounds like Maxwell if he took money from WM he is guilty and this makes him very unethical and corrupt. I am sorry, but I am not voting for any of these three ever again. Too, I am tired of Canadians and northerners having the right to park in resident decal beach parking, this has never been the case until a few years ago, those limited spaces should only be used for full-time year round residents who can vote and who live here year round,not snow birds and tourists. I am not going to vote for anyone who gives our beach parking away to Canadians or others, it defeats the purpose of having the higher fees for tourists. I am really fed up with this trio, so unethical, they have no logic, so greedy and corrupt.
@1:00. I don't know what the CM said about that but if he said it, then it would be against the Resolution that was passed in 2009. Are they to make an exception for one property and not all of the rest?
There are only something like 50 Residential decals because of the deal that was struck with the county for their $5mlliom that went into renovating the casino building
