FL Sober Home bill

Comment Up

Jeff Clemens Sober Home bill, SB 326, flew through the first committee.  What it is attempting to do:

  • Kickbacks, bonuses, commissions and bribes between sober home operators and treatment programs to secure patients. Criminal penalties would apply.
  • Free and reduced rent and “scholarships” offered to addicts with insurance to persuade patients to move into a specific sober home.
  • Predatory marketing, including call-centers hired by treatment businesses and sober homes that do not tell addicts seeking help of those partnerships or that they receive a fee for every addict they refer to the center.

A step in the right direction to regulate the sober home industry. There's literslly not a thing we can do with out federal and state laws as these addicts are covered under ADA. We need to remive gh from the ADA protections so we, the citizens and our cities can then regulate them into non existence

Raids in WPB too. Wish our city would enforce our short term rental law, would help reduce sober homes.

It's really a pity that people don't do proper research before they formulate ian opinion…

Under the Federal ADA and HUD rules, it is illegal to discriminate against a protected class of people in housing and many other areas.

And unfortunately addicts are listed as a protected class. So if you really want to get down to the brass tacks and tackle the issue, federal legislation is required to change the existing laws.
