Spring Training Hardball

Comment Up

With merely a mention of what we all went through with this incumbent commission advocating for a Spring Training Baseball stadium 100 yards from our neighborhood, The Palm Beach Post only said this:  "Other sites popped into contention, including one pushed  by Lake Worth officials but the old landfill [45th Street and Haverhill Road in West Palm Beach] had the momentum."

Spring Training Hardball

If you recall, City Manager Michael Bornstein and commissioners, Maxwell, Triolo and Amoroso were playing hardball behind the scenes, trying every trick in the book to bring a Spring Training Stadium to John Prince Park. They even got Shelley Vana, county commissioner who is now term-limited (thank God), to push for it in John Prince Park. The mayor of West Palm Beach, Muoio, even suggested that the County look again at John Prince Park.

Maxwell and friends were pushing it very hard. Much of the "push" was behind the scenes. They had no problem with bulldozing a county park for private enterprise. They actually believed that the money from all those attending the games would trickle to our downtown--people would go to our downtown, have dinner and fall in love with our town that they would even buy a property. They had their friends wear baseball caps to city hall and sing "take me to the ballgame." They, to this day, still get the maximum campaign contributions from one couple who sang their hearts out.

And to this day, the trio still plays hardball with other issues.

Thanks, Lynn. I had forgotten about this and it wasn't that long ago. These people count on our lousy memories.

Voters have to hold Maxwell accountable for trying to turn a public park into a commercial enterprise. The voters in the Osbourne community have to feel burned by this commissioner who didn't care what they thought.

The idea of filling in part of the lake was also pushed as a way to 'fit' the baseball stadiums into the park layout.

Maxwell does not deserve to be a representative of the residents of LW and should not be re-elected.

John Prince is a county patk and is not located within the city of L W and as such is controlled by the COUNTY and County Commissioners.

You give too much credit to the trio.

I guess you wouldn't love for your neighborhood to offer amenities like those offered in Abacoa with Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter - spring training home to the Cardinsls and Marlins.

And yes, I know what I'm talking about, I did sell several Cardinal Players a home up there in Abacoa. All different price points from condos to golf course homes. A nice stable and safe environment for everyone.

The restaurants, bars, shops and the cigar store all enjoy having 2000-8000 spectators in their backyard for games. It's vibrant and nice to have jobs nearby and fun things to do with the family. It certainly would have improved your little Lake Osborne neighborhood.

So instead, now you get to complain about the people sleeping in the park and addicts doing petty crime like breaking into your car for stuff to sell and get their next high.

Oh, a real estate agent making a comment...pray tell.
We are just fine in our "little Lake Osborne neighborhood" and don't need to improve it. Thanks for caring. (That is sarcasm in case you were wondering) I am not happy about the homeless situation but perhaps this trio can solve it all. Of course, they have had years to do so.

The trio, no, in fact the quintuplet of commissioners can not solve a national
problem.

If these people want help, then they would take it when it's offered them, and which is available to them.

The only problem is is that they don't want to give up their drinking and drugging in order to take the help. These people enjoy the hobo style of life.

And if your claim to your neighborhood not needing help was authentic, then you wouldn't be bitching about the new condos it went up on Lake Worth Rd.

Better buckle up it's likely to be getting worse. The whole south Florida area has more of these transients in the winter than any other time of year due to our great weather .

What we are concerned about with the condos built across the lake is MORE affordable housing--prices even less than what HUD says is "affordable." Also a deputy told me a year ago to expect crime to intensify in that area. That is our concern.

As far as transients coming here...yes, a lot of addicts living in sober Homes right in all of our neighborhoods. That is a big concern.
