Everyone has a problem or two with our city---now it is our signage, and not an immediate priority.
The CRA in conjunction with KMA Design gave a presentation at Tuesday's commission meeting about branding for Lake Worth. KMA Design Consulting gave the talk and PowerPoint presentation that showed their vision for our city. They believe that Lake Worth needs a consistent signage system as ours is a hodge podge of different colors and designs they declare. They don't even like our entry sign.
KMA has suggested magenta and orange to be the colors. Below is a photo from their presentation at City Hall.
It was unclear who paid for this "study" and if the CRA will be getting grant money to pay for it. We have so many important issues here that the CRA should be solving: slum and blight is their mission, long put on the back burner.
Personally, I think the neighborhood association banners are 100% better than this.

Stop it right now. These signs are dreadful. Where the Tropics Begin is our logo. Stick with it.
Right on re the logo.
Our entry signs do need improvement but these proposals are definitely a step in the wrong direction. The ridiculous shape is outdone only by the garish and offensive colors.
Get more proposals from other orgs.
The CRA Budget on their website lists "Way_Finding/Signage"
The last 3 years total = $157,000.00
FY 2013/2014 - $75,000.00
FY 2014/2015 - $32,000.00
FY 2015/2016 - $50,000.00
Andy said $25,000.00 was spent on this company.
What's up with the remaining $132,000.00?

I'm in favor of better branding. First on the list, let's change the name to Lake Worth Beach. Second on the list, better informational signage directing traffic to our downtown and to our beach, our golfcourse, etc. Third on the list, would be this kind of effort, but the proposals are awful.
I think I feel sick. We have all these problems and we're spending a big chunk of $$ on this? Really? Economics 101: if you keep screaming poor poor us and throwing away our money, guess who's not going to be believable? Lake Worth Beach?? We just went through a whole brouhaha over that and that also is throwing away money because you have to change all stationary, letterheads, business docs etc. That sounds even dumber than paying money for something hideous to try to brand us. Lake Worth has always been known for its artists, individuality and quirkiness. Which is why I love it. And that doesn't come in an expensive mass produced bottle that wastes our hard earned tax dollars. Can't you read between the lines? It's to attract more dastardly developers. Please let them all go back to purgatory in Miami Beach.
