“We want those two roads to be almost like new. We don’t have the money to completely rebuild them. We can’t even
fix our own streets.”
~ Michael Bornstein, City Manager of Lake Worth
Now the City of Lake Worth, spearheaded by Commissioner Amoroso who is a downtown merchant, wants to take over Lake and Lucerne from the State and wants FDOT to spend over $3 million repairing them first! We want them in tip top shape.
My question is--why do they want to take over these roads? The downtown businesses must be putting pressure on the city. Maybe when the city owns the roads, they can kick anyone off the streets or simply close them down whenever they please just like Propaganda does on J Street or the merchants can move their tables right out to the curb.
The City of Lake Worth admits it can't take care of the roads it already owns or for that matter, anything within this 6 mile radius. Now they want these roads! This is a city that wants to outsource our beach casino complex because they can't figure it all out and already outsourced our garbage.

Please fix the streets in our neighborhoods before you take on new streets to take care of.
Everything that comes out of city hall is just a bunch of bs, the officials, Mayor & CM all have a private agenda behind closed doors. Truth is the City isnt to broke to pay there ever increasing salaries is it? Yet the roads look like hell. Employee moral is at a further low, now nearing the end of Jan and still no OCT 1st raise, haha! Also im all for helping out the homeless who want to better their lives but come on peeing in public why would I want to help that person who completely has no care or self respect for the children around. This city needs to really get it together. The sad part is LW is so political nothing ever really gets done to improve this city only more bs to talk about. I say we need real leaders in this community not the phony politcal puppets of current. They read your blog Lynn and despite all the public criticism they still have yet to change their agenda.
I think there are pros and cons to this proposal. Clearly there is the issue that we can't afford to take on more roads when we don't have enough cash to do the bare minimum of maintenance on our city streets.
On the other hand, it would be nice to have control over the roads. I agree that we really need to slow the speed on Lake and Lucerene to grow our downtown business district. Traffic moves much to fast, does not yield to pedestrians. I'd also love to see the big trucks diverted off lake and lucrene, its awful to be trying to enjoy a glass of wine when a huge truck barreling by.
As for more cafe seating. I don't think we can handle much more, in many areas, pedestrians can't even walk along the sidewalk there is so many tables and chairs blocking the way.
But he and his lockstep trio Triolo, Maxwell, and Amoroso have $15 million to splurge on the Park of Commerce.
If they want the 2 avenues cleaned, they need to cite Amoroso for all the junk he puts in front of his store on a daily basis making the street look like a third world garbage can.
VOTE AGAINST ALL THREE ON MARCH 15TH!
I don't understand any advantage to doing this. The speed limit is 25 max, and usually crawling much slower due to pedestrian traffic. Any lower and traffic simply cannot move at all. Think about this with the new Gulfstream upzoning--gridlock for all traffic heading to the beach.
I thought we are so drowning in debt already that we must cede at least part of our beach to private developers...Is this another ruse to prove our only hope is a massive bond issue with no strings attached on how it is spent?? I'll bet this is to be bundled with more spending and infrastructure for the Almighty (please genuflect!)Park of Commerce. Something smells very rotten about this. Perhaps this is so Hudson Holdings can control both streets, setbacks, traffic flow etc???
Or is Bornstein negotiating another deal in the dark with another of his "friends?"
Just on this morning's Sunday programs is an expose on how Puerto Rico, Detroit, and several other cities went bankrupt. You guessed it--they were sold "safe, low risk muni bonds." With large undisclosed commissions and undecipherable terms. "Complex financial instruments" in the vernacular.
Right now I wouldn't trust Bowtie or the Gang of 3 to sell me, or even give me, a used car.
Is this to send us further in debt so only a certain developer can promise to save the day. That would give him control over the street adjacent to his property... I shudder to think...
Its going to be interesting on March 15th
11:01 You got that right. This is one more reason to vote these guys OUT ON MARCH 15!! Next they'll want to sell us a bond to do this, and buy a bridge in New York. Out damn spot! We've got to take our city back from these "visionaries."
