White French Muscovy at Lake Osborne

Comment Up

As reported several months ago, we have a White French Muscovy duck living out here at Lake Osborne. I think he perhaps escaped from a farm or hatchery. French Muscovies are "quackless" but they can hold their own with all the other ducks...they don't mess with "our" Muscovy. He has a quiet voice, calm demeanor and minds his own business, not really mingling with the other birds too often but when he does, he is king.

There's an almost all-white female at a retirement community in Delray. She's got a tiny black spot right on top of her head. Her boyfriend is very gentle and attentive to her (male Muscs can be kinda mean) like he knows what he has. So fun to watch.

A lot of birds and wildlife carry diseases--pigeons, starlings and sparrows to name a few. You should be more worried about a mosquito---maybe a Pine tree. LOL

I recently read an interesting article about these ducks in the Sun Sentinel, one of the experts was saying we should be eating these ducks for food, b/c they are prodigious breeders and b/c they are invasive.
