Walking the streets--knocking on doors--in order to educate the voters on this tax increase. We ran into one woman who voted early and she voted for the bonds. Her explanation: "I'm 72 so what the hell." This is the type of voter the city is seeking. This is why they hired Information Alliance in order to steer their campaign to the low information voters or those who don't give a squat because of age or property value or because they are renters who do not pay tax. That's basically their base along with a few of those "deserving to be admired" stormtroopers, so I don't know why the city had to hire a firm out of Utah to tell them that.

Talking about property values Lynn you fall into that category, your taxes will not increase, and you will get all the benefits of good streets, more lighting, sidewalks, and fire hydrants. Which will make your insurance rate go down. Why are you so against letting the people east of Dixie pay for something that will cost you nothing?
This 34 year tax increase has NEVER been about me. I live on a County road and my community has private streets that WE PAY TO MAINTAIN. Insurance rates will not affect where I live. It is not listed on the city's plan. But I am rather sure that all property values will increase over 34 years...the odds say that will happen and it won't be due to some new infrastructure. Even so, I am against this tax because I don't trust the city to manage one dime of taxpayer money. If you consider the campaign to grab the cash, why would anyone trust these people? If you consider the last election, I know very well NOT to trust this dais. To live in a city with 32.6% poverty and only 36% or so paying to rebuild a 100 year old city is UNFAIR and absolutely RIDICULOUS in anyone's book. The city is in a hurry and needs this money and it is counting on the emotions of people voting it in. The city should have listened and given a different plan doing the worst first but now put out stupid stuff on low interest rates for a reason to get the $63.5 million that will equate to $131 million after 34 years. Who ever heard of a general obligation bond for road maintenance that should have been done all along. Pathetic, really. If people want this tax, so be it.
If you want to come over here and talk about my property value, then post under your real name. I have heard all your remarks before.
The city took 50,000 of our money to tell us that they are broke and need more of our money.HUH????
The last city hall meeting was on July 8th.The city canceled the rest until AUGUST 19TH.
Our finance director walked out after only 5.5 months.
The "facts" put out by the city about the 20/20 project keep changing, from originally 30% to 70% ,then 75%. WHAT A SHELL GAME !
These people are so confused that they don't know which figure they told to which person. No way are these money grabbers getting any more of my money !!!
Going on about how it should have been don all along is correct, what are Mr. Dorsey's and Mr. Exline's excuse for when they where in office?
Well, be specific, anonymous. What in the heck are you talking about? There was a corrupt police department then. Residents were grateful when the mess was cleaned up and years later reelected him as commissioner. So, before throwing the BS, let's hear your facts, not crap from some policeman who was involved. Don't know about Exline. They did serve at one time together but they butted heads. Go ask Exline...better yet, ask Dennis Dorsey before you throw your stone.
I would bet he could put his record next to yours or anyone's for everything he has done for this city and there would be NO match.
All I am saying is you say that this is something that should have been done all along, so let's add a few more names that should have been doing it Jennings, Mulvehil,Golden, and hey what the hell Waterman. You know the best commission ever. And also why did Ms. Stanton not address this Issue. Just Sayin.
We have all sorts of money socked away in the CIP. There was a line item every year in the budget for street maintenance of over $1 mil. This commission reduced it to $500,000. Go ask them why they did that.
It takes years for infrastructure to be at replacement level. We have spent hundreds of millions just on Mock Roos engineers alone over the last 50 years. Go ask them.
Stanton was cutting expenses and turning this city around and that proof is in the Audits. You are playing the blame game. Instead this commission should have come up with a lesser plan, proved themselves, etc. But no, they have to grab this humongous amount of cash.
No trust; no bond.
This is not a new Commission. They have had plenty of time to do something. This Commission is sitting around with much more than 20 million stuffed up their azzez. What exactly has THIS Commission done for Lake Worth? Gone to Dave's and other local restaurants and stuffed themselves on our dime? Traveled to here there and everywhere on our dime? Broke every one of their campaign promises? "We promise to audit the utility" "We promise to bring single family home ownership, not low income rentals into the city" (how's THAT one working out for everybody )? NO COMMISSION has EVER canceled meetings like this Commission has. NO COMMISSION has EVER ignored the results of an election like this Commission has. For that alone they should be kicked out of office. Amaroso, Szerdi, Maxwell and Triolo think that the Sunshine law is about tanning beds. They act like they have never heard of it.Their motto is "PROVE I BROKE THE LAW".From illegal banners to group conventions in Orlando, this group of Commissioners does the title Corruption County proud.
I agree with you Lynn. So many people are so uneducated about this issue and do not know all the facts. Also, so many are so one sided not willing to look at all sides or the bigger picture of this. They can tax the taxpayers until the cows come home, but the city will n look any better in 2020 or in 2040. Why are so many people so uneducated or want to be taxed on something that they do not need to be taxed on?
Great summary of your readers by the last 2 posts. Katie goes on a rant about this corrupt commission without providing any details. "heather" says she agrees with you. (Of course she does) but then writes people shouldn't pay taxes on something they do not need to be taxed on. How will any roads be paid for? Donations? Maybe like your favorite mayor suggested, bake sales?
My readers are people like YOU, anonymous. It is belittling such as what you just did that does not help your cause. In fact, if by some miracle voters believe all this stuff put out by you and the city, I hope you are alive long enough to have to pay for all 34 years.
Who was my favorite mayor? I have never had a favorite mayor.
People have no understanding how this will be paid for (if it passes). I had a conversation with a neighbor who said the bond will pay for the roads and assumed the bond will be paid for by the City. When I pointed out we the tax payers would have to pay for the bond, she was surprised noting there was nothing on the flyer that spoke to that.
