Who's the Boss?

Comment Up

Most of us who are working or who have ever had a job had bosses. Just think if your boss requested something of you and you totally ignored it--willfully and purposely did not fulfill the directive.  What would happen?  Do you think your boss would remain silent and not say a word? Of course not. Do you think you might just get him mad enough to fire your butt?  Possibly, but it is fair to say he would be pissed.

Well, that's what happened with City Manager Michael Bornstein. He was told to give the commission a self-revaluation of his performance. He didn't. None exists. We don't know if he thinks subjectively or if he believes he is the Second Coming or if he thinks that he should improve in any area. Different standards exist for different people. And the city commission wonders why we get perturbed by their non-actions. Maybe he informed them he was not going to do it and we just don't know about it.  Maybe he gave them a verbal review and we weren't told. Or maybe they all silently agreed to let him off the hook.

There was no public review by any commissioner. Why then was this even on the agenda? After reviewing four of the five reviews by the commission (John Szerdi's had not yet been received by the city at the time of this writing), Triolo and Maxwell rated Bornstein a 4 on a scale of 1 through 5, with McVoy rating him between a 3 and a 4 and Amoroso giving him the top grade, a 5.

It was a "fun" happening full of hugs and kisses but nothing substantive happened. The city commissioners are the bosses but they were made to look ineffectual in what was supposed to be an  employment review that was feeble at best.

This is so wrong, I would get fired if I did not do and turn in my self eval or my evaluation to my boss each year, it is mandatory, this is not right. He should be fired then. I give him a 1. Why do we have these elected officials that are not working for US, this is so wrong. I am very disappointed, this man can't even have the decency to return calls, emails, or concerns of tax paying home-owning citizens in this city. Amoroso doesn't even own a house in this city, he has become a real disappointment for this city and people. We deserve a better city manager and better comm.

Meh. They saved him the embarrassment of having to admit he's not accomplished much.
Improvements in the city have come to a grinding halt now that the PRIOR commission majority's projects have all been finished. Is there even ONE road in the city being fixed right now? I don't think so. Crime is up. No more board ups or property clean ups happening. Everyone else's property values are going up and all that happens in Lake Worth is more slum lords buying properties for rentals.
He's a powerhouse. Give him a 5 and let's end this meeting by 8 pm!

Lynn you are full of B.S. everyone knows Mr. Bornstein is doing a terrif job. Even Bartbars Jean praised him.
Who asked him to Self Evaluate himself.

"everyone knows...."
What exactly ARE the accomplishments?
Thanks for saying I am full of shit. I think you got that one azz backwards once again. LOL

Lynn we know you don't speak at meetings on the C.M. evaluation. But how about now. You've said what a love fest it was , so why don't you tells us what your evaluation of Mr. Bornstein would be.

As I've said, Mike Bornstein is a charming man. However, I honestly do not know what he does or what he has accomplished. He never gives a city manager report. I can't evaluate him...only the commission can do that with any degree of knowledge. Is he taking their policy directives and following through?

Lynn where did the city post the other evaluations? Do you have and are you putting up?

From what the Commission said at the meeting you sat though they seemed more than pleased with his performance. Why even Mr. McVoy seemed pleased.

Lynn Anderson said...

McVoy--He did?
It was their appointment so being "pleased" is no surprise.

What has Michael Bornstein done to improve the lives of the taxpayers in Lake Worth? What has this Commission, his boss, asked him to do? How has this Commission made life better for anyone living here?

Lynn Anderson said...

Received John Szerdi's rating for Mr. Bornstein--4.5

the commission can't evaluate him, you can't evaluate him, we can't evaluate him. So who the hell can.

HE sounds like an egomaniac, he would not do his own self eval? And right we can't even evaluate him or have any say in the matter as the citizens of this city. There is something really wrong with the system. No wonder people here have no faith in their government and they wonder why. Thanks Lynn for your blog. Shame on you Michael.

I am absolutely convinced that no amount of wealth in the world can help humanity move forward even in the hands of the most devoted worker.
The example of great and pure individuals is the only thing that can lead us to noble thoughts and deeds.
Money only appeals to selfishness and irresistibly invites abuse. Can anyone imagine Moses, Jesus, or Ghandi armed with the money-bags of Carnegie?

Why should a 5 be a surprise from Andy. He said Mike was sexy. Deplorable.

Lynn Anderson said...

I took that remark as his sense of humor--a joke. :)

Andy did mean it as a joke!

To the tool who said Andy told Mike he was sexy.. that would be a little thing we as humans call 'humor' concentrate on on a more important topic and quit your bs
