Last night was Commissioner Suzanne Mulvehill's last regular meeting as an elected official as she made the decision not to seek a third term in order to pursue her career. She invited some of her close friends to a coffee and cake party in the conference room prior to the city commission meeting. A slide show was presented depicting major achievements for which she was involved over the last four years.
Suzanne Mulvehill started violence awareness when she first took office nearly four years ago. She established the City of Lake Worth’s First Comprehensive Zero Tolerance Domestic Violence Policy in 2011, making it the first city in Florida to set such a policy. She will courageously and publicly share her story of being in and getting out of a domestically violent relationship, to encourage and help others in similar situations.
Despite overcoming many obstacles, affiliated with domestic abuse, Ms. Mulvehill, became a community leader, authored two books, became an international business consultant and guest lecturer at universities in both the United States and Europe. She still found time to single-handedly educate two children, earn her masters degree, and run for public office. In addition, she won the Point of Light Award, was the recipient of the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Champion Award and the SBA's Women Advocate of the Year Award.

Scott Maxwell and Chris McVoy were the only commissioners who thanked Suzanne last night. The other two plus Peggy Fisher were, well they were what they usually are.
You stated in your blog, "Morganti's restaurant will be serving today and opening to the public tomorrow with the rest of the tenants opening later this year." Since when did the Contractor get a restaurant??
And, Yes I do read you blog but I can not understand why you continue to praise Commissioner Mulevhill for the casino building when she doesn't take any responsibility for any of the shortcomings of the building. Isn't this a double standard.
NO, it is not a double standard. You tell me how she is responsible for crappy hardware etc. You don't have to give an in-depth explanation, just one that makes sense to the rest of the world.
There is so much more wrong on that biulding then crappy hardware.I believe this may just be the beginning.

Mulvehill had nothing to do with lease negotiations with John G's. They gave up and moved to Manalapan. Our loss; their gain.
What the Citizens of Lake should have demanded is a building that was built or even over built to all coastal constructions codes for a building that was effectively torn down and demolished. Commissioner Mulvehill, whether you like her or not made a huge mistake by politicizing the casino building. This building needs to be able to stand the test of time. What we got is an attitude, not only by commissioner Mulvehill but by others involved with the decision process, to build the building by squeezing it into a not to exceed price and circumventing building standards that if this was a privately built building would never have been tolerated. Not by the permitting process and not by the owner. But hey there she is at the private party. The rest of us including the tenants, will be dealing with a pretty building from afar and yet a compromised building that will reveal its flaws on a daily basis for years to come when you work there, are a customer there, or are charged with the operations and maintenance of the building. That's what happens when politics get in the way.
How can any business move in or open for business until the building is completed and passes final inspection?

Regarding the building, I believe it was Mulvehill's opponents who made this a political issue. Morganti says it will last for 50 years. Rick Gonzalez said 25,50,100 years? He could not quite remember but I remember--50 years was the spec.
As a woman, I was offended by Commissioner Mulvehill's politicalization of the issue of Domestic Violence. I asked her before she recommended Lake Worth's first $25,000 donation to insist on a Lake Worth office. She never did. so i never thought she was sincere or helpful.loptish
In the Casino, repairs include metal strips to close the exterior doors and holes in the floors to drain off the water from the warped floors.

Insisting on anything because of money is unethical and is political. Mulvehill is above board in all she does.

It then went out on an RFP and Shauna and Annabeth answered it. They were hired by the city--NOT Mulvehill.

Given the unsuccessful results of Annabeth's efforts, wouldn't it have been more cost effective to hire the CRB for free?
