Last night under New Business, was Staff's recommendation to award a contract to M&M Asphalt to temporarily return 2nd Avenue North back to a one-way street. Joe Kroll, the then Public Works director never obtained the proper permits not did he budget for making this one way street two ways. The City now has sent in their permit application as well as having a survey and engineering completed by the FEC to determine the cost of relocating the arms to both sides of the tracks. Right now we are looking at a cost of at least $250,000.
Performing this work for the $11,344 ($6,494 for striping, $4,850 for signage) would allow the City to reopen the roadway which has been closed and barricaded for months. Staff recommended that this option be chosen. This would allow the project to be budgeted in fiscal year 2013, as it was not budgeted for fiscal year 2012 and proceed with a two way street as two new businesses locating on Dixie want this street to be two ways. This was approved on a 3/1 with Mulvehill dissenting.
Also, the entire commission (McVoy absent) approved to continue the public hearing to use the uniform method of collecting non-ad valorem assessments for fire and street lights. This was approved unanimously just in case the commission, can't afterall, come up with budget cuts to eliminate the fire and street light assessments for year 2012.
The Commission received word from the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser's office to a March 10th notification date as allowed by state statute. Mr. Peter Timm from the public, agreed with the city taxing everyone the same for fires services. No one corrected him and told him that it was for a fire pension.
So, all of you taxpayers out there, don't get too happy yet. All those campaign promises might be your typical political "I fooled you baby."

Let's add that to the long list of Joe Kroll foul ups that he got away with because of politics. It's unbelievable how he was allowed to continue. I would wager to say that he cost the city several million through his few years here.
How were politics involved when Kroll worked for the city? Stanton's pet commission was in the majority when he worked for the city.
Please list what he did to cost the city "several million" dollars. That would be interesting to see, and why didn't his boss, Stanton know or do anything about it?

One reader points out some of the Kroll screw-ups. There are some not on the list.
Stanton didn't micro-manage to that degree. She expected her department heads to do their jobs. They certainly were paid enough.
Kroll was LOVED by some controlling people in this city. Kroll would have been gone too if it were not for the intervention of some strong political characters in Lake Worth who loved Kroll for all the nice things he did for them.

We get it Lynn, you don't like Kroll. I think he was one of the bright spots in SS's blotter. He made decisions when they needed to be made. He pushed projects through. He told me more than one time that I was wrong but did it in a respectful manner which his boss was incapable of.
You didn't attend his appreciation send off due to your attitude of him, but it was well attended by many people. I, for one, think he should be considered for the CM job. And once considered, if he is the best man for the job, he should be hired. It would make for an easy transition. He already knows the score, the players, the employees and even his nemesis blogger.
Please read the sentence one more time. Take your time now. Stanton depended upon her department heads to DO THE DAMN JOB and to tell her the facts. She didn't always get that with some employees.
Glad that you like Joe Kroll. He was a very nice person. But being nice is not a qualification to being a city manager especially in this city.
So you expect intelligent people to believe that Joe Kroll was terrible at his job and the only reason he wasn't fired is because 12 people (I'm assuming you're talking about the DIRTY DOZEN) liked him? Even you can do better than that.
