It seems obvious to me that since Putin knew that the war would be extremely unpopular, he wouldn't want to risk the relationship by starting an unpopular war.
Yes, Lynn; We are the perfect people. Even though our president is an idiot, and our vice president defies description, and although the 330 million of us are from countries across the globe, somehow, we got it right, and everybody else is wrong. Go take a cold shower, and hope you don't wind up in a refugee camp yourself someday.

330 million of us are NOT recent immigrants...most of us are Americans by many generations here, and by culture.
Americans as a group will respond to the Russian attack on the Ukraine people based on the values within our culture. The only real X factor is what the lying mainstream news media tells the American people, as this is a propaganda machine and they do not often deal in Truth or the entire story...meaning...the American people need to determine what is happening from many external sources, and hopefully get a fairly accurate picture of our new reality overseas.
@6:04...kids from West Point on a spring Break did something really stupid and they had to idea that this cocaine was laced with deadly fentanyl...but they are still kids. Eventually, they will be leaders and defend us, you can count on it. It sure won't be you, a person with no loyalty or love for this country.
No one has ever said we are perfect but we do have a Constitution and our citizens have rights. It's more than most countries have that are suppressing freedoms across the globe. And it is why everyone wants to come to the United States. Why not give up your spot and let someone else migrate here who loves America?
If I had known it was that easy to get into West Point, I would have gone there myself.

@9:23...back then, MacArthur was not under the command of a president that allowed open borders and the worst drug invasion in our country that has hooked 23 million. Drug addiction is at an all-time high in the United States. Study after study shows us that drug use is on the rise under Biden.

You say America has no friends, but America is where most immigrants most want to find their way to....and I have traveled overseas enough to know that we are looked on favorably by many countries --certainly you have no credibility and no standing to make your claim.
As to world affairs, how does an anonymost poster have any standing to suggest they are more aware of the world and what happens in it than I am ?
As to a discussion, I would meet you in town at a restaurant or coffee house of your choice, but the reality is that you would be afraid to speak your mind without the shield of anonymity...But hey, keep up making up stuff that makes you feel special.
Okay Dan, here we go. You represent one school of thought, and I represent another. I am of the Kissinger, Mearsheimer "Balance of Power" school of thought, and you are of the popular opinion school of thought.
Both sides purport to be Conservative, but one side represents popular, or neo-conservative viewpoints, and the other is more of a traditionalist by nature.
Back in the day, it was pretty much an established fact, that Democrats were the War party, and Republicans not so much. If you can recall reading of Eisenhower warning of the "Military Industrial Complex".
These are not ideas that can be discussed over a cup of coffee, they are a lifetime of being.
We haven't lost any young men for a while, and for the most part, most of our Generals, are Armchair Generals. Our enemies are not pampered pot smokers, they are tough hard men. That you can see for yourself on TV.
We have to work our way out of this without blowing up the world, or taking the advice of Hannity!

There might be some readers here that will be impressed by the implied superiority you hope for, by aligning your worldview with Kissinger.
Framing my worldview as being from "popular opinion" is a leftist tactic that would imply the views I express on this blog are aligned with views of peasants, and so subservient in value to the nobility of your claimed association.
The biggest problem we have here is the failure in communication. As you are posting your ideas as a non-person, as anonymous, there will be a poor connection of language and behavior. Your words should be understood in the context of a known personality and physical behaviors. Worse still, you make wildly inaccurate assumptions about how I form my world views, and what is important to me. If you knew me--if you were a real person, you would know that I NEVER consider a majority opinion as relevant or important when faced with some new determination. If you knew me, this would be obvious, but instead you make assumptions convenient to your argument.
I believe that the world view you claim to parrot, and my world view, can be discussed by people that are capable of discussing details. The people that can not discuss such issues are the ones that spout headlines and catch phrases, but have no stomach for the real conversation.
For a discussion of any real importance, you do it in person. Too much of the general semantics is lost in blog posts or even phone calls. This is why an important business meeting takes place in person....like when a billion-dollar a year Ad Agency pitches a Car manufacturer. It can't be done intelligently over the phone or by email--it must be done in person.
