The City has announced the launch of a new web-based
application that will allow customers to track any lateral or higher
power outages that may take place in the Lake Worth electric service
area.* The beauty of the application – the Lake Worth Power Outage
Tracker - is that consumers may access information via their phone,
laptop or tablet.
Bringing this new application to Lake Worth was
tasked to Walt Gill, Assistant Director of Electric Utilities who the city just put on administrative leave. They aren't telling us why. Great going city for the Lake Worth Power Outage Tracker but what about Walt Gill?
Lake Worth has been able to build this application within the utilities
department’s operational budget. Gill has been working KBS Technologies
to develop the application based Lake Worth’s individual needs, says the city.
Click here... for the next time you have an outage. Of course you won't have any power but perhaps someone can explain that one. With most of us using wireless network connections to connect our
devices to the Internet, our connection is still reliant on power
because the modem and router that enables our home network requires
electricity. But, I'm not tech savvy.

Anyone with a smartphone can access the app anytime.
I think this will help make the electric utility more productive. Instead of fielding 1000 calls, they can work on restoring power, and the customer can still gain the information they need.
Did the utility EVER answer a call?
A SmartPhone? Who can afford one? How much do they cost? $200 up to $1,000 plus another $160 a month for service? Great.
Funny, you can track your power outage but you need power to track. I assume they think many will track via smart phone and I would but not everyone has one.
