Rick Scott Wins Big

Comment Up
"Still think Rick Scott doesn't know what he's doing? Somewhere south of Winterfell, in Florida's ever-engrossing Game of Groans -- Scotties vs. Feds -- the Feds blinked first.

The Scott team won a big one this week. Does anybody really believe that without the Scotties' lawsuit bluster, without the governor's health-care-commission showmanship and his trip to Washington and his ideological kinship with the House speaker, the Feds would be proposing $1 billion for LIP next year?"

“The decision about whether or not to expand Medicaid is a state option … Regardless of whether a state expands Medicaid, uncompensated care pool funding should not pay for costs that would be covered in Medicaid expansion,” federal health officials said in a letter.

So Florida's argument with the Obama administration left his budget $1 billion short. Scott pressed, waited for the ideal time and through clever strategies, got the money. Now the State does not have to expand Medicaid.

Actually, he's pretty darn good. The NYTimes ranked him as the 20th most conservative governor in the country so that should make all you liberals happy. Naw, that couldn't happen, could it?

850K low-income Floridians remain unable to get affordable healthcare because of Rick Scott. That's a fact.

And Rick Scott and his legions who hate govt. handouts celebrate a govt. handout worth $1 billion. A principled lot, they are. Their total goal in life is to be able to say that "they won," no matter if it goes against everything they preach or not.

Politics before country, every single last one of them.

A Republican Winner is apparently someone who walks aways from the bargaining table getting 1/2 of the money that he did the year before. And then expecting 1/2 of that amount the year after.

Hilarious.

He's a winner in that he will not be "coerced" into expanding Medicaid with Obama's threat of cutting off federal money used to treat uninsured hospital patients. He now will get the money and balance the budget and low income patients will be cared for. Florida wins. Obama loses and Scott has shown him that he can't always b e a dictator.
That is kind of hilarious.

850K low income Floridians were not able to get affordable healthcare BEFORE LIP funds were cut in half. They're still there, Lynn, AND hospitals are getting less money from LIP.

It's also interesting that an ideology that preaches self-responsibility and independence from the govt. teat is totally okay with handing corporations big govt. money because people can't pay their bills. Make them be responsible....make them buy health insurance or penalize them.

As long as there are Floridians out there not able to afford healthcare, no one wins.

Shame on anyone who says otherwise.
