Walt Gill, appointed Lake Worth Electric Utility Interim Director

Comment Up

Walt Gill, an electric utility employee for 18 years and Senior System Operator for Lake Worth Electric Utility, has been appointed the Interim Director to replace Clay Lindstrom who has taken a new utility director job in Ft. Pierce. This was confirmed by Mr. Gill who said that Mike Bornstein asked him on Tuesday to fill-in until they find a permanent Director.  He says that he is up to the task and it's been a whirlwind for the past few days..

I met Mr. Gill back in 2010 when I took a tour of the plant. While there, the power went out.  It was reported that it was a 26.kv feeder problem. All of us on the tour laughed. We were familiar with these interruptions. Years ago, the Utility's direction was to go with the 26kv upgrade that was not standard in the industry that ended up costing the City an estimated $4 to $5 million in squandered waste and continues to be one of the largest boondoggles in City history. No one knew why they did what they did.

We can't seem to keep an Electric Utility Director as Becky Mattey resigned in 2011 and Clay Lindstrom just resigned. The job requirements are still on the Lake Worth web site: 1). ELECTRIC UTILITIES DIRECTOR JOB CODE (4195) Salary: $120,000.00 /yr Depending On Qualifications Closing: TBD.  That salary seems on the low side to me and hopefully we will be able to find a qualified Director who can manage and budget for our most important and valuable asset.

How come he got the job?

I don't know. I guess you will have to ask the CM who just got a $10,000 raise for superior performance and decision making.

This is unbelievable, when talking to others in the Utility he has absolutely 0 experience in Electric Utility other than dispatching and 0 respect among his peers. Should be an interesting ride with Walt, no doubt he will need a lot of help from those who should have had the job.

Mike Bornstein is the CEO here...he's supposed to know best. Gill has been with LW Utilities for nearly 2 decades. This is only an interim position. I wonder if Clay got to weigh in before he left on the 6th? As we don't get management reports...
